Do you believe that the paparazzi should be held responsible for the car accident in which Caitlyn Jenner was involved in?

Asked by NerdyKeith (5489points) August 5th, 2016

Caitlyn Jenner has filed a law suit against photographers, claiming they are at least partly responsible for a fatal multi-car crash in California, last February.

She claims that the paparazzi visually distracted her, causing the accident to occur.

Do you agree?

No. She allowed herself to get distracted.

However, there should be laws governing their conduct.

@Dutchess_III Yes I just feel that the paparazzi get away with too much havoc. Some even blame them for the death of Princess Diana. She was chased by the paparazzi after all.

I know. But the driver has to stay focused no matter what. When taught my kids to drive I said, “I don’t care if a tarantula falls on you when you’re driving, you keep control and get the car stopped before you do anything!

Lol thats great advice.

As a side note I think this is a very good reenactment of how aggressive the paparazzi can be. I know its a work of fiction. But what we see in this short clip is not far from the truth.

Someone here suggested SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER out of the blue, and doing it often enough that the new driver learns to not react until they can pull over.

No, unless they struck the car Bruce was in or blocked the way to make swerving into the path of another inevitable, everyone has to be defensive and alert in their operation of a motor vehicle.

Possible changes in driving ability should be included in the warning list of effects associated with male to female sexual reassignment surgery.

@SecondHandStoke Leverne Cox doesn’t seem to have any issues. Maybe it’s just a Jenner family trait.

I’m surprised the police didn’t charge them if they caused a distraction, visual or otherwise.

YARNLADY's avatar

Yes, they should pay for the collision they caused.

Tough call, but, this is like suing McDonalds for making you fat. If you are a high profile celebrity, and not condoning the sleazy pursuits of the Papazzi, but….this shit goes with the territory and if you can’t dodge the dogs safely, then get a fucking Chauffeur that is cool behind the wheel.

WOMEN DRIVERS! SHEESH!

^ Well, perhaps this particular female driver had little experience.

In a different way than usual of course.

On the other hand, women drivers:

She is faster that YOU.

You damn straight she’s faster than me @SecondHandStoke! And I’m proud of her. I was playing on that old stereotype that women are worse drivers than men….although the statistics prove otherwise.

You can’t court paparazzi attention and then whinge when you get it. The Jenner/Kardashian’s have made a fortune from selling their lives to the media. If you sell yourself in that way, you can’t switch it on and off. If you don’t want to be harassed, don’t open the door. There are plenty of famous people who live normal, quiet lives. The Jenner/Kardashian clan do the exact opposite. It’s their business.

Frankly, this smacks of just more media tart behaviour and trying to avoid responsibility for an accident by blaming someone else. Where is the evidence to support her claim?

Princess Diana was a very different situation. She married into the royal family. She did not actively seek media attention. Chasing her car through that tunnel was unsafe. Was the activity of the paparazzi unsafe in this case? There’s nothing in this article to say it was or it wasn’t. Just her word.

Remind me again. Why do we give a rat’s ass about Caitlyn Jenner?

Coloma's avatar

@LostInParadise Yoiu mean Brucelyn? Personally I think that is a much better name. Not dissing transgender people, but hey, humor. I joke about my 18 yr. old pet goose that I thought was a girl before he morphed into a boy at 4 months old. I call him my trans-gander lol.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Thank you @Earthbound_Misfit. My thoughts exactly.

@Coloma… Go talk to your goose, would ya?!

ibstubro's avatar

Yes, but, can your read “Media whores need chauffeurs.” 5 times without error?

NerdyKeith's avatar

@LostInParadise Its more about the circumstances of the accident rather than the people involved. I don’t care about reality to stars either. Including Mr Trump.
