52 movies?

Asked by SuperMouse (30845points) August 1st, 2008

I want to find fifty-two movies that I haven’t seen, that are available on NetFlix and watch one a week for the next year. I call it “SNJ’s First Annual 52 Week 52 Movie Film Festival.” Genre doesn’t matter, I’ll watch them all, they just need to be quality films available on DVD. Any suggestions?

I started answering this but my reply got huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. I’m sure you’ll get a ton of great recommendations from everybody else, but if you want to add me as a friend on Netflix, you could just browse through my rated movies and see if there’s anything that catches your eye!

If you live near a Netflix shipping center you can conceivably watch 2 a week. I like to send one Monday, get it Wednesday, send it back Thursday, get a new one Saturday, and send it back Monday. Works really well if I stick to it.

These are my favorites, though you’ve probably already seen them:

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Garden State, Shaun of the Dead, The Royal Tenenbaums, Fight Club, The Godfather 1 and 2, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Saved, Oceans 11, Donnie Darko, Goonies, Malcom X, Bullitt, Casablanca, It’s A Wonderful Life, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Feel free to comment me if you want more, I love to talk about movies, or if you want to add me as a friend on Netflix (500 Rated, 300 on my queue!)

@Dave; Seven Samurai is absolutely brilliant! Good pick.

Whatever you do, don’t buy a Roku; you’ll find 52 on-demand movies that no one has ever seen!

Corrections:
#8 on my list SHOULD read “Megaforce”, not “Meagforce”. Besides which, upon further reflection, Megaforce was great when I was a kid, but truthfully, it’s a pretty terrible flick. So let’s replace it with:

8. The Tao Of Steve (2000)

Also #22 Condorman.. is wonderful, but it too is essentially a kids movie, so let’s make it:

22. The Conversation (1974)

It would help me to know your approx. age. I’m an older man, so an older movie I love might be a turnoff to you.
