Building energy management?

Asked by cr7 (7points) August 4th, 2008

Some people suggested I tell my boss to start implementing a demand response system to build energy management. He doesn’t want to pay a company a lot of money to do this, but I think we consume too much energy. What kind of plan can I put together to cut back a little?

Hi cr7. A demand response system may not help you save “energy” but can help add money back in to your budget via a demand response program. DR programs basically work like rebates but are a little more complicated.

Your best bet to start the conversation with your boss is to benchmark you energy use against other similar facilities. You can do this through the Energy Star website fairly easily. Once you have an understanding of how much more than average you are using, your boss may see the financial benefit of reducing those costs.
