What did I miss yesterday?

Asked by cinnamonk (5402points) March 25th, 2017

I took a day off from the internet yesterday and I have no idea what happened. Can you fill me in? Something about the Obamacare repeal, something about Trump blaming democrats, something about Paul Ryan? What happened?

Paul Ryan realized by mid afternoon that he did not have the votes to pass Trumpcare. He ran off to the White House to tell Trump. The administration and the Speaker agreed to pull the bill and cancel the vote.

Trump blames the Democrats, which makes no sense. The Freedom Caucus is now flexing its power to run the GOP agenda in the House. And twitter has gone wild with jokes about Trump, Ryan, and others.

Somehow I’m only now hearing the term “Freedom Caucus” for the first time. What is the Freedom Caucus?

Many republicans are Trump’s enemies too.

@cinnamonk
Ultra-far right tea party extremists on the Koch Brother’s payroll.

Interesting. So is that what the Tea Party is calling itself these days?

@cinnamonk The Freedom Caucus is a group of about 40 GOP congressmen who formed in response to perceived ideological betrayal by former Speaker John Boehner. They were the ones that contested Boehner’s leadership in 2014, and came close to derailing Ryan’s ascension in 2015 when Boehner resigned.

Their threats were also the reason so few GOP reps stepped up to run for Speaker when Ryan was chosen.

And it was because of the Freedom Caucus that Republicans failed to repeal the ACA yesterday?

zenvelo's avatar

@cinnamonk Yes, they felt it was “Obama care lite”, and did not do enough to repeal all of the ACA.

As a comedian I saw last night said, they didn’t think it knocked enough people off of the insurance rolls. “24 million is not enough, get above 40 million and we’ll vote for it.”

cinnamonk's avatar

Wait, the reason it didn’t get passed is because it isn’t cruel enough?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah..I’m learning something now. I thought the Freedom Caucus was a good thing….. :(

RIght?

I don’t like to throw around words like “evil” lightly, but I can’t think of any other way to describe the modern day republican party.

It’s not good but it has given life to those 24 million at least for now..)

And Trump was all, “Fuck it, I am bored with healthcare, let it implode and then explode (WFT) and it is the Democrats fault.”

Sorry dude. You have the perfect storm. It is on you now.

I have no idea.

Yesterday I was at Disney World all day. Today I did Zumba in the morning, took a nap in the afternoon, and did some work in the evening.

For some reason Fareed didn’t tape, or maybe my husband accidentally erased it, and I haven’t watched Meet The Press yet.
