How to stay on Fluther homepage when I try to log in?

Asked by flo (13313points) May 31st, 2017

Bt the way, asking a question seems to be working on a tablet for me today (I hope) but not on a desktop.
So, most of the time clicking on log in doesn’t lead me to the log in page, it stays in the home page. So is there a way of not having igo there?

Hmm. I use a desktop for Fluther, and it usually just remembers me, but occasionally randomly forgets and shows Log In fields in the upper-right, which on my usual computer start pre-filled with my info, so I just have to notice it and click the button to log in. No moving to other pages is involved for me. I don’t know why I’m so fortunate.

Ok.
I think the login page could be where the problem is

By the way
1) What does mobile version exactly? technically everything that’s not a desktop is mobile. I know people don’t include laptop eventhough it is mobile.
2)Are you able to use the Ask Fluther feature? The reason I’m bringing it up is https://www.fluther.com/201341/is-fluther-down-for-you/

@flo 1) Good question, I think, though I’m not sure exactly what you’re asking as you seem to have dropped a verb. Guessing with some info, I might offer that some web sites try to guess whether a user is on a mobile device and if so, switch to a version designed for them. Usually it will be layed out differently, and is often determined by the reported display size available to the web browser, as that’s often the main issue.

I just tried loading fluther on a mobile device and got redirected to i.fluther.com, where I infer that i. refers to iPhone, particularly because it looks like absolute trash on my non-iPhone Android device. Or there’s just a bug.

Annoyingly, requesting i.fluther.com on a desktop seems to redirect to www.fluther.com, probably overriding the request based on data my browser reveals to servers.

@Zaku I meant What does mobile version mean exactly? I dropped the verb “mean” right?

Thanks It’s complicated.

@flo Oh ok, yes. Again, it means the i.fluther.com version of the page, which the server automatically directs to when it thinks the person is coming from such a device (or to www.fluther.com when it doesn’t think that, which makes it hard to control). Usually when I’ve programmed such things, it’s the browser’s reported display size in pixels, but can also be other data sent by the broswer. Laptops aren’t considered “mobile” for this purpose because they report as full computers with higher-resolution screens.

@flo I think maybe using a tablet which acts like a mobile phone.
