Does Fedex Ground really go by ground all the way?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33160points) July 20th, 2017

I sent something from LA to Pittsburgh, PA today. Delivery time some day next week.

Does Fedex Ground always use their own trucks the whole way? Will they put the box on a train to Chicago (?) and then truck it?

Do they ever put Ground packages on a plane?

I shipped a thing with Fedex yesterday. From Oregon to Toronto. It was shipped with ground. From the tracking page it is hitting some airplanes.

My package went from Portland to Kansas City in about 6 hours. Not possible with a truck. Must have been on a plane.
