If someone cut in front of you on line, or you thought they did, would you say something to them?

Asked by jca (36062points) October 2nd, 2017

I was on the return lined in Costco yesterday. The line was out the door and I got behind someone, and not long after, someone else got behind me. As we went through the door, toward the return counter, a couple appeared and said to the man in front of me that they were “behind him” because they were waiting elsewhere. I put on an unfriendly face, and stared straight ahead, and then the man (of the couple) said to the person in front of me that they would be behind me.

I was just thinking “All I know is that they’re not in front of me.” I figured whatever they did behind me was between them and the person behind me.

The person behind me didn’t say anything to them.

If someone cut in front of you on line, or you thought they cut, would you let them or would you say something?

I would say something, and I don’t think that “waiting elsewhere” is an excuse.

I almost always would say something. If the person was very old, or seemed mentally ill or disoriented I might let it go.

I usually just cut back in front of them. People are jerks…

I recently cut in front of a few people in line. I didn’t know I had done it. I was a NYU hospital and the line at the cafeteria for some reason isn’t apparent when you walk towards the registers. I realized once I looked up having put my food down at the register. I apologized to the line and pretty much everyone in line said “don’t worry about it, go ahead.” I still went to the back of the line. A few days later my mom did it, I didn’t realize until she had already paid, I was in a different area of the cafeteria. No one said anything to her. I was surprised. I guess it probably happens all the time there. Maybe because it’s a hospital they are more understanding?

Damn right I would. I think I’m turning into a crotchety old woman. I was in Ikea yesterday, waiting and waiting to talk to an assistant about some stock we’d been waiting and waiting for for three months. This man came and stood in front of us. It was obvious he was trying to jump the queue, so I loudly said to my husband, “I hope that man isn’t hoping to jump the queue, because I will say something!” He did try and before I could say a word the assistant told him we were before him. People are just rude. I’m not going to put up with that shit.
