Does having a messy, disorganized house cause you to be stressed?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46813points) December 21st, 2018

I am just freaking out here. A few weeks ago I had my 18 year old grandson and his friend come over and bring down some furniture that we had stored in an upstairs bathroom. I’d been wanting to get rid of it but Rick wouldn’t let me. Finally he gave me the go ahead and my grandson brought it all down. Now I need some help getting the trailer emptied so I can load the stuff up and take it to a warehouse for a garage sale Habitat for Humanity has every year. But I can’t seem to get any help so I have all this shit lying around, getting in the way.
And last week we got Rick a 50” flat screen (what is with the size thing, guys?) and to have any place to put it is requiring some remodeling in my living room, which Rick started two nights ago, so there is a giant hole in the wall between the kitchen and the living room and there shit every where from THAT.
And I have 40,000 presents that need to be wrapped by tomorrow morning.
I’m really stressing out about this, getting short tempered and irritable. I can’t do it all by myself any more.

On the bright side, 4 of the grandkids will be here tomorrow, and I’m taking two end tables to the wife of one of my former jail students so I’ll get to see him again. And they have a million kids and 5 acres so we’ll visit a bit. I think the kids will like that.

Nope. Not at all. I am a naturally messy and disorganized person, I still managed to function just fine, bills get paid, stuff gets done.

I managed to polish some of the available table tops that I can actually see, and I cleaned a light plate switch. And the kitchen is mostly clean. But the rest of this shit is driving me mad! I love the way I have it decorated but you can’t even tell that it has ANY decor at this point.
When I got out of the hospital in 2012, I had some temporary memory loss. I didn’t recognize our house when we pulled in to the drive way. I walked in and thought, “Wow. Someone has really nice taste!” LOL! Plus Rick had it really clean.
And now it’s all exploded. :(((((

Thanks Rebbel. That’s all I can do right now. Tomorrow will be a start and I’ll start feeling more under control.

No, it causes me to fire the maid.

Call “William” at the local Habitat for Humanity.
Our local H for H can schedule pick-up (any item that two men can load in the box truck).

I can live with it for a while. Months, if I can see the end in sight. It’s much harder for me when it’s someone else’s mess in my house, or if I’m staying in their house and it’s messy.

I have a mess in my house, because we have a 4,000 sq ft house in 2,000 sq ft, and I want to fix it so bad, but it doesn’t drive me completely crazy. What it does is make me embarrassed to have people over.

Yes, majorly. Where the fuck is my windex and my swiffer?!

Thanks Willy. Don’t think we have that here. But one of the board members has 3000 sq ft morton building I can store it in. I asked if I could get the key (so I could haul stuff, by myself in the SUV over the course of a week or so,) but she said she’d meet me there. So I have to figure out how to haul it all at once on the trailer so I don’t inconvenience her.
But we need to get the trailer to the dump first to empty it. I just don’t know how to safely hook the trailer up or I’d do it myself.

Our “William” is great, sorry your area doesn’t a pick-up service.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Goodwill does that, actually, but Habitat here doesn’t. I guess no volunteers have stepped up with the suggestion and to volunteer their work and their trailers or trucks.
It’s not like any of us get paid you know.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

“William{’ gets paid, not a lot but I hear it is above minimum wage. Truck is a donation from from a auto parts distribution company in town, maintenance is paid from H for H and truck donor.

I will look into working that out! I don’t suppose “William” does interstate service? ;)

1) Got the 40,000 gifts wrapped. With Rick’s help. He is so meticulous that his gifts look like works of art.
On the other hand I wrap 3 to his 1.
Getting there.

Absolutely. I need one room to be tidy so I can calm down.

I try my best to ignore it when I don’t have the time and capacity to clean them. I’ll do what I can to clean one thing at a time, and do things step by step until I’m done with them all. In a super pure lazy situation I’ll just cover them or drag them somewhere where they can stay hidden for temporary.

40,000 presents? How come I don’t get one? haha jk!.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I exaggerated @Unofficial_Member. I only have 39,000 presents. And half of them were sent out today.
Closing in on the solution to my peace of mind.

Alright, @Dutchess_lll , but I’m still going to get one, right? Haha.
