How do I find out information about my old middle school?

Here are five ideas to try:

• Look for the location of the old school using Google Maps and see if anything close by reminds you of the name.

• See if a former classmate can be located on social media, and network your way to someone—maybe a former teacher—who knows the answer.

• Check the local newspaper that would serve the town and see if there’s an archive you can access. Or call its office.

• Locate the school district that your school was in—the new school is probably in the same district—and send an query to the office.

• Call or write to the public library that was closest to your school.

I’ll bet there are more ways, and one of them will work.

From checking in periodically with my own home town newspaper on the other side of the country, I found out that my old junior high (middle) school—a handsome brick building, pretty old (1894)—was being turned into condos. The school was replaced a few years ago by a new structure just down the road. I’m glad I didn’t find that out suddenly by visiting the city and finding the old school gone. I didn’t like my high school much, but I did love the old junior high.

I totally did not think of your suggestions before, kind of obvious now.
The new school does have a website so I will try to contact them and go from there. I do remember the old school being close by a busy highway.

Google is your friend, We have three schools in my county that were closed between 1959 and 1979 that have alumni pages.

You already have great suggestions above. I would start with a friend on social media, like Facebook, who went there, see if they know. If they still live in the area they may know what happened.
