Can you watch animals fight to the death?

Asked by mazingerz88 (28832points) September 23rd, 2019 from iPhone

Not the fights occuring in their natural environment but in cockfights or dogfights for example where people gamble with their money.

I can, but I won’t. I suggest you do the same since it’s ridiculous and cruel.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I’d rather not, but I could. Turned down many a pit fight, not starting now.

@nerdgirl578 this is the second time that I’ve seen you jump.to the conclusion that the person asking the question is guilty of what ever they’re asking about. @mazingerz88 has too much class to participate in something so horrifying for amusement.

mazingerz88's avatar

Not sure about having class (lol) but true enough I saw a cockfight once and I’m done.

My opinion is those thousands of people in that part of the world who really must gamble could develop another spectacle to bet on minus the cruelty. But the tradition is deeply embedded in the culture so nary a chance of that happening.

I don’t think I could stomach watching a dog-fight. This question was triggered after I read a news article where the photos of all of Vick’s dogs ( 40–50 dogs? ) were featured along with what happened to each of them after they were rescued.

nerdgirl578's avatar

@Dutchess_lll Lol, how serious did you think I was? Of course I realize mazingerz88 and anyone else don’t like to watch animal fights…

KNOWITALL's avatar

@mazinger Here, if you have a pit, you will be invited or asked for your dog.

One of my two, my female, they threatened to take without my permission because she was huge and beautiful, and what they call ‘game’. Its very cruel.

Some people have a whole wood full, one dog on a log chain on each tree. Thats how you generally know who’s hardcore. And you dont snitch.

Vick sucks, I’d love to see someone give him a beat down. He cant make up for what he did to those dogs.

cookieman's avatar

Absolutely not. The people who orchestrate such things should be placed in a cage with another asshole and be forced to fight to the death.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Some people obviously DO like it @ nerdgirl578, or it wouldn’t exist.
There was nothing in your comment to suggest you weren’t serious.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I could, but sure as hell wouldn’t want to.
That kind of thing totally disgusts me.

I never have and I think if I saw something like that, it would be seared in my brain and I’d be traumatized. I have seen videos of bullfights and that was enough.

If I see any type of animal cruelty videos, I tell myself not to watch because it’s really upsetting.

Before, there was a video on FB and it was “covered” because it said it shows graphic violence toward a child. I watched it and it was a man who had a baby on the floor, baby was about a year old to 18 months old. The man was slapping the baby on the face and picking the baby up by his ears, and then picking him up by his arms and dropping him. The baby was screaming. I shouldn’t have watched it. It didn’t appear to be in the US. I’m kind of traumatized by it.

mazingerz88's avatar

I read an article once about what happens during a dogfight and all of that got quickly seared in my brain. There is something terribly amiss with men who find nothing wrong with orchestrating, gambling in and watching dogfights.

gorillapaws's avatar

No. Though I’m ashamed to admit I laughed at a video of a guy who punched a kangaroo in the face.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@jca2 I saw one of an Asian lady slapping and pushing a one year old. Tripped my trigger for about three days. Nanny cams are a must, people are insane.

Also the recent one with baby cows (my weakness) and the workers tossing them in big pens on top of eachother and beating the poor things. Ugh…cant unsee that.

I’m ok with watching animals fighting in their natural environment, but not ok with watching them fight for the sake of some humans’ pleasure. The animals have a clear reason to fight when they do it naturally. But in an artificial setting they are not fighting voluntarily. It’s like watching people settling dispute vs watching prisoners fighting in prison for their survival.

This thread finally made me recall that —-oh how I regret seeing that
YT video!—— hated it so much——taken in China in what looked like a dog farm and dogs were being slaughtered in ways I could imagine only demons from Hell would do!

I love all animals. BUT. I saw a male lion, fight a bull, on YouTube once. I have to admit, I was entertained. The bull.was incredible. Brute strength. He fucked that lion up. I know he got scratched, and bitten. But he kicked the “king of the jungle’s” ass. It was a grainy video. But the sheer force of the bull, was beyond impressive.

Yes. It was cruel. And abhorrent, but I was intrigued, by the bull’s capabilities. I was hypnotized, by the scientific part of it. I would have bet, on the lion. But the bull, just owned him. It was incredible. The bull was not afraid. He threw the lion around, like a toy. I feel bad for admitting it, but it was amazing.

I am strongly opposed, to such things. But I have watched the video several times. I guess that makes me a hypocrite, or worse. But, my curiosity, outweighed my ethics….

@Grimmy Watching antelope cross a river of crocs is kinda neat, too. So fast and the gazelle leap knowing they could be the unlucky one. But thats nature, not man made, its ok lol

jca2's avatar

I feel really bad for any animals suffering from neglect or abuse. Dogs chained outside all day with no food, no water, nothing to do, such a sad existence. Animals left in an apartment or outside when the owner moves away, tragic.

A woman at work told us she had a dog (long ago) that starved to death. I asked her if the dog lived outside, and she said no, it was in the house. So you had a dog who lived in your house, you saw the dog, were reminded that the dog needed food, saw the dog’s health declining and you just let it go? I think less of the woman now. Yes, many people did things when we were younger that were not always the best things to do, but that, I find incomprehensible.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@jca2 She sounds like a psycho. Hope she didn’t have kids. Ugh.

jca2's avatar

She does have kids and now grandkids. She’s about 70 now, retired, works for us part time.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@jca2 Let’s hope she learned from her horrible mistake.

anniereborn's avatar

I can’t even watch animals fighting for survival in any way. So no, absolutely not.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I’m just guessing a woman who is stupid enough to watch her dog starve to death is too stupid to learn jack shit.

MrGrimm888's avatar

@KNOWITALL . Agreed. I’ve seen plenty of those videos too. Did you know, that a crocodile, can sit in a dried up river bed, for 1 or two years. It kinda slows it’s metabolism down. Like a bear hybernating. Then. When the rain finally comes, all the animals go there to drink. Then the crocs, wake up, and feast on all the unfortunate animals.

I had a pet snake “Monty” (he was a python, so ya know “Monty Python.”) Anyways, at one point, he didn’t eat for 8 months. I had to feed him live rats. I hated it. But. If was so fascinating, watching him eat…
I eventually have him sway, to a lesbian couple, with all his stuff, for free. He was actually a rescue snake. The cops brought him in, to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital I used to work at. Since he was an invasive species, we couldn’t let him go. The doctor was going to euthanize him. But I adopted him instead. He was over six feet long, and thicker than my wrist, when I gave him a new home. I had him for 4 years. I used to wear him, on my neck, and shoulders, and watch TV with him. He moved around a lot, and it was like a comfy shoulder massage. If I didn’t know better, I think he massaged me, knowingly. It was a very interesting experience…

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Grimmy Nope, didnt know but its cool. When I go to FL, I’m going to watch croc wrestling though. They are fascinating.

Snakes are awesome. Havent had one but sounds fun. When my conure nibbles my ear or nuzzles my lip, theres a chance she’ll bite too hard, maybe a snake would feel a bit the same? Sweet but dangerous.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

No.That is something I wouldn’t be interested in.
