What do you get if you go to McDonalds?

Asked by josie (30934points) November 12th, 2019

I’m pretty careful about what I eat.

But even I occasionally defile myself at McDonalds. It seems sort of un-American not to do so, even if it is infrequent.

Do me a favor and don’t take up space by telling me how you never go to McDonalds. Thanks.

My favorites are the fish sandwich, or the number two meal, with a side of nuggets.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

20 nuggets and Super sized coke no ice. Best coke in the city.

josie's avatar

Why not ice?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@josie So it doesn’t water down my pop when I take my time eating. The coke starts off perfectly cold and delicious. If it makes ir home I used to take the ice out with my hands.

josie's avatar

Why not get a cup of ice on the side, so you can also have it cold?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@josie Good idea. Will try next time.

Patty_Melt's avatar

I have done that too.

Demosthenes's avatar

Two hamburgers and medium fries. Sometimes four-piece chicken nuggets. I admittedly like McDonalds sometimes, although lately I’ve been going to Taco Bell more (including at 1:30 in the morning which seems like the most appropriate time to go there).

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

Sausage McMuffo
It’s like a large Scooby snack.
I also get a medium coffee with that as I like to burn the hell out of the roof of my mouth.
I never believe the warning on the cup. I can’t really make the words out anyway as my eyes are burning with desire for a large Scooby Snack.
What do you get?

josie's avatar

Is that with egg, or without?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@josie -No egg anymore. It grossed me out one time and I haven’t been back.
Now fess up to what you get. Big Mac perhaps? Chicken Mcfukkits? Cheeseburger?
Whopper? XD

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Usually breakfast. Egg McMuffin. Sometimes pancakes.
Other would be a small cheeseburger because that’s the most I can eat.now.

josie's avatar

McDouble

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

gorillapaws's avatar

Stomach cramps and diarrhea…

Dutchess_lll's avatar

What ever I get I ask for it made fresh. I don’t mind the wait. :)

JLeslie's avatar

For lunch and dinner, usually a quarter pounder no cheese with ketchup only and fries no salt. If they don’t do all the changes correctly I’m not bothered by it. I don’t mind the burger with everything and I can shake some salt off of the fries.

If I’m not in the mood for a burger (if I ate one the day before) I’ll get chicken nuggets.

On rare occasion I get a burger happy meal.

For breakfast I get a sausage McMuffin with egg, and I remove the yolk. I usually just get the sandwich with water. Once in a while I’ll add a hashbrown.

cookieman's avatar

Sausage McMuffin with egg
Bacon, egg & cheese biscuit
Sausage McGriddle

All decent breakfast sandwiches.

And I like their Iced Coffee.

mazingerz88's avatar

Twice a month or once a month it’s Big Breakfast for me. Sausage, pancakes, hash brown and that egg ( I think it’s real eggs. Who knows really? ) and coffee. I drop the butter, pour all that syrup on the pancake stack flooding the styrofoam plate soaking everything, sausage, hash browns, eggs. It’s all good. 750 calories. It’s ok. I’m due tomorrow.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

It’s real eggs when they’re “round eggs.” The make them on the grill. Folded eggs are still real eggs but pretty sure they’re shipped in folded. We need to talk to someone who’s worked there.

mazingerz88's avatar

@Dutchess_lll There was a time it was nothing but steak, egg and cheese bagel for me in the morning. They still have it. That gives me an idea. Lol

Dutchess_lll's avatar

My McD quit selling bagels about 2 years ago and I be pissed! Some how I can’t quite match their “toasted” bagels with cream cheese. I have tried.

filmfann's avatar

Indigestion.

Okay, I actually get a quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and an iced tea. I also like the fillet-o-fish, but rarely splurge.

Jons_Blond's avatar

Sausage biscuit.
McDouble with no onions.
Iced Tea, not sweetened.

When my son gets a meal he’ll share his fries with me. We dip them in bbq sauce.

Jons_Blond's avatar

@lucille Your answer inspired a question from me. Look in social.

johnpowell's avatar

Two cheeseburgers (ketchup only) and a supersized-fries. And a water since I don’t drink soda.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

You eating McDs ok @johnpowell?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Breakfast burrito with extra cheese….

jca2's avatar

Mc Double, no cheese, no onions. Add lettuce, tomato and extra pickles. $2.66.

Other rare occasions, McNuggets.

Sometimes if I’m not having the burger, I’ll get the vanilla cone. I call it a “dollar cone” but it’s no longer a dollar.

Sometimes a Diet Coke.

Maybe twice a year, the big breakfast and not eat it all. Mainly for the pancakes.

If it’s in the morning, coffee.

I’d say I’m at the drive in window about once every two weeks or once a month, the majority of the time will be just for a cone.

anniereborn's avatar

KNOWITALL's avatar

I go pretty rarely now, but either two cheeseburgers or a Big Mac. Not a fry fan.

jca2's avatar

I hate when fast food places put mayo on a burger. No mayo, no special sauce. To me that’s gross.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 Agreed! Any sort of mayo or special sauce made with mayo. Gross.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Every now & then I get to craving a Big Mac & NOTHING will stop that craving except a quick trip to Mickey D’s!!! As I’ve gotten older, it doesn’t happen as often as it used to, but still happens maybe once a year.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@LadyMarissa Same. I also had a McRib recently, for some reason, I have to have just one each year.

BackinBlack's avatar

I love getting fries and a bunch of sauces to dip them in! Buffalo and BBQ are my favorite. If you haven’t put honey on your McDonalds fries you are missing out!

mazingerz88's avatar

^^Agree. I don’t like fries but when I’m at McDonald’s I end up finishing a big size order. Lol

KNOWITALL's avatar

@mazingerz88 I hate them and it’s only because I read an article like this. I won’t post the verbiage, so I don’t ruin it for anyone who doesn’t want the TRUTH. :)

https://www.mashed.com/67746/whats-really-mcdonalds-french-fries/

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Is the Mc Rib any good?

I got a chocolate shake about a year ago. Literally the first McDs shake I’d had since I was a teenager.
...
....It was gross! Nasty. Too sugary and not at all how I remembered them. :(

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess I mean, compared to a real bbq pork sandwich it blows. But with the sauce, onions and pickles its oddly delicious to me-once a year anyway. And for 2.50 each.

I hate their shakes, too. I get the small hot fudge sundae if I have to have ice cream, which is rare.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

No pickles!

Sometimes I crave a Big Mac but I can’t eat a whole one. They started advertising a Big Mac Jr.or something. It was a $1.00 McDouble with the shredded lettuce and special sauce. But they wanted to charge $2.50! Forget that! I ordered a McDouble for a buck and requested the lettuce, onions and special sauce.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess Heck you got a dog that will always take leftovers! Lol

Thats funny, you won! I tried one and they sucked, not even close to a Mac.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

My dog got left over Egg McMuffin today. He liked it.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I don’t know how much different it could be, @KNOWITALL, other than a sesame seed bun and a piece of bun in the middle. The burgers patties are the same ones the use for their regular burgers, including the McDouble.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess It was awhile back, I just remember it sucked. It wasnt a mini mac, it was thicker or something off.

Patty_Melt's avatar

The shakes taste awful because most employees don’t know how to take apart the dispensing assembly and reassemble for cleaning, so they don’t other. I did know how. Whenever I did it, too much time had gone by, and it smelled like someone gutting a shark. It was a horrible death smell of rot.
I won’t get their shakes.
I looked forward to cleaning the parts, because after I reassembled it I knew I had a couple of days I could have a shake with lunch.

jca2's avatar

I find McD’s shakes to be kind of bland. The chocolate shakes taste like they need some added chocolate syrup.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Here, Hardees shakes are better than the other FF places!!!

KNOWITALL's avatar

@LadyM Ever had Braums? Mmmmm

Dutchess_lll's avatar

So thick tho @KNOW. Geez. Have to wait an hour to sip it through a straw.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

You aren’t serious I hope @mazingerz88. There ARE conditions under which food won’t rot. That’s how we know what Ötzi had to eat not long before he was killed 6000 years ago.

It can happen in desert conditions too.

Kardamom's avatar

I have ordered coffee drinks at McDonald’s, but there is really no food for a vegetarian to eat there, so I never do. I’m hoping McDonald’s will follow the example of Carls Jr. and Burger King, and offer a veggie burger.

JLeslie's avatar

@Kardamom McD’s has salads and apple slices. Plus, the French fries and hashbrowns. You can order a sandwich no meat. You can get all the veggies and cheese. You could ask for a tomato and cheese hot sandwich something like that.

Not that I expect you to go to McD’s by your choice, I’m saying if you wind up there for some reason there are some choices. Desserts of course too.

jca2's avatar

@JLeslie: McD’s French fries are made with beef flavoring. You can google it and find out that it’s true. Their fries are not for true vegetarians. In India, their fries are not made with beef flavoring but they say it takes something away from the flavor.

Dutchess_III's avatar

They used to fry their fries in lard. They were soooo good then. I guess the beef flavoring is an attempt to recreate that amazing flavor that the lard gave them.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 I thought McD’s did away with that years ago. As far as I know the fries are vegan now. I’ll have to check it.

raum's avatar

Nope. Still use beef flavoring. Which also has wheat. So they’re not gluten-free either. :/

Dutchess_III's avatar

@raum, your CNN source is from 2001. @JLeslie‘s is from after that.

raum's avatar

True.

But that’s also kind of like saying that was an old lie. They’re still liars in my book.

Dutchess_III's avatar

If you can come up with proof that they made vegetarian claims prior to 2001 I’ll be on board with the liar thing. Otherwise, I see no reason whatsoever to jump on that bandwagon.

JLeslie's avatar

Well, I agree that any scant amount of beef counts when we are talking about vegetarians and people who avoid beef for religious reasons. I think now that the awareness is so much higher about these things that restaurants are more careful. Moreover, McD’s went through that lawsuit, so I’m thinking they are truthful now.

raum's avatar

In 2001 McDonald’s settled for $10 million. But they haven’t changed their recipe. Here’s an article from 2019

Also…what bandwagon?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh the “McDonald’s is evil and their food is so bad for you and it’s not real food and blah blah blah” bandwagon. It’s FOOD. It’s actual FOOD. Just food.

jca2's avatar

Yeah I googled it this morning and found out about the beef flavoring.

Dutchess_III's avatar

They don’t use it any more, according to this

“Since 2007, we’ve made them without any animal-sourced ingredients. We cook them in 100% vegetable oil, in a dedicated fryer separate from our meat items.”

jca2's avatar

@Dutchess_III: Have you read the article in the link provided by @raum?

Dutchess_III's avatar

The article @raum posted was was written in 2001. They changed in 2007.

jca2's avatar

Taken right from the McD’s website, just now. Thank you. (if you know me, you know I go right to the source).

https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us/product/small-french-fries.html

jca2's avatar

Just to cut and paste for anyone who can’t access the link:

French Fries
Ingredients: Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (canola Oil, Corn Oil, Soybean Oil, Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Natural Beef Flavor [wheat And Milk Derivatives]*), Dextrose, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate (maintain Color), Salt. *natural Beef Flavor Contains Hydrolyzed Wheat And Hydrolyzed Milk As Starting Ingredients.

Contains: Wheat, Milk.
Cooked In The Same Fryer That We Use For Donut Sticks Which Contain A Wheat And Milk Allergen.

jca2's avatar

Just in case you’re going to make excuses for their “beef flavoring.”

https://www.vegblogger.com/blog/2019/01/are-mcdonalds-french-fries-vegetarian-or-vegan.html

jca2's avatar

Link I just posted is from 2019.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, then they’re going to get hit with another law suit because they ARE, clearly, advertising them as vegetarian and vegan friendly.

jca2's avatar

Where are they advertising that, @Dutchess_III?

Dutchess_III's avatar

From this link that JLeslie posted.

jca2's avatar

That link is from McDonald’s in Canada, @Dutchess_III.

jca2's avatar

Cut and pasted from the McD’s Canada site:

I heard your fries contain natural beef flavour, will you be making a vegetarian option then?”

McDonald’s Canada
You might be thinking of the ingredients for McDonald’s fries in another country, Oliver. McDonald’s Canada fries are made without any animal sources and are cooked in 100% vegetable oil with a vegetable-based natural flavour, so they’re already a vegetarian option! Another fun fact: all McDonald’s Canada fries are made by McCain, a name you might recognize from the frozen food section of your supermarket. You can see exactly how they make our fries by watching this video.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Where does it say that it’s from Canada?

jca2's avatar

@Dutchess_III: See where it says “ca” in the link?

Also, read the cut and paste I just posted (above). That’s right from the Canada site.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I meant, where does this link say it’s from Canada?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes I do, now that you mention it. I find that misleading.

jca2's avatar

Scroll down and go to their corporate link or their “contact us” or their locations, you’ll see they’re all Canada.

Dutchess_III's avatar

You shouldn’t have to go all around the mulberry bush to find out that it’s from Canada.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

If I was a veg or vegan in America and I googled to find out if they used beef flavoring in their fries and found myself in a McDonalds.com website that advertises they are V friendly and they did did not make it perfectly clear that.it only applied to Canada I would be pissed.
But I am not a V so do what you want McD.

gondwanalon's avatar

Egg McMuffin and a strawberry-bandanna smoothie.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 I’m not clear if the beef flavoring has beef, but from what you posted it has milk, so it definitely isn’t vegan.

The matter of the fryer maybe being used for beef or chicken, I don’t think that should matter. All restaurants that aren’t vegetarian have possibilities of that type of contamination.

raum's avatar

Except for locations that sell donut sticks, McDonald’s has dedicated fryers for their french fries.

jca2's avatar

@JLeslie: If you google “Are McDonald’s fries vegetarian” you’ll find so many sources saying they’re not. It’s not just that they’re not vegan, they’re not vegetarian either.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 I’m surprised the government hasn’t fined them and shut the claim down.

JLeslie's avatar

It took me several clicks to get from the McD’s site to their ingredient information. Page 31 on this pdf does not list beef flavor. https://www.mcdonalds.com/content/dam/ca/nfl/web/documents/IngredientslistCA_EN.pdf

I think it might be an old piece of news that is being passed around right now like it’s current. What do you think? Just like the political crap that gets forwarded.

jca2's avatar

@JLeslie: Again, you are linking the CANADA McDonald’s site.

See the “ca” in the link? That’s Canada.

I posted many links above for the US site with ingredients, etc.

JLeslie's avatar

Ok, I went back through the links. So, I’m still curious if there is any beef in the beef flavor, but for sure it’s not vegan if there is milk.

raum's avatar

It also says McDonald’s Canada in big bold letters on the top of the page.

They use beef flavoring in their fries in the US. Why is this getting dragged out for so long?

JLeslie's avatar

@raum I guess because I question everything I read now with bots and bullshit constantly passed around.

I saw that it said Canada. I’m surprised the ingredient list is different in America than other countries for the French fries, but I guess that’s the case.

jca2's avatar

I tend to be cynical which is why I usually like to go right to the source for information.

JLeslie's avatar

@ica2 :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

@raum here is a screen shot of the website in question. Where does it say “McDonald’s Canada in big bold letters on the top of the page.”?

@jca2 yeah…IF you know what the “source” is.

jca2's avatar

Here’s the page that @JLeslie posted (9 comments, approximately, above this one).

See where it says “canada?

https://www.mcdonalds.com/content/dam/ca/nfl/web/documents/IngredientslistCA_EN.pdf

Dutchess_III's avatar

That link goes no where @jca2. I see in the link where it says “CA” but that is certainly not eye catching or obvious. If I even noticed it, I would think “California.”

Also, @JLeslie‘s link, about 9 posts above, goes nowhere.

raum's avatar

If you can’t open the link, how can you disagree with what it says?

At the top of the first page, in big bold letters, it says “McDonald’s Canada Ingredients Listing”

Dutchess_III's avatar

@raum I didn’t say I disagreed with what it said. Here is ascreen shot of the website I’ve been referring to. It’s from this website. I don’t see “Canada” in “big bold letters” anywhere. Do you?

Dutchess_III's avatar

And please listen: I don’t disagree with anything about McDonalds. I could care less if it has beef product in the French Fries. I could care less if they’re fried in lard. I. Do. Not. Care. There is nothing her for me to argue about or disagree with.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Ok, I restarted my computer. Let’s see if I can get into the links above now.

Dutchess_III's avatar

For me, this link just blinks. It doesn’t send me anywhere.
The link here in jca2’s post doesn’t scream “Canada” at me.
This link in @JLeslie ‘s post just blinks and sends me nowhere.
So it would appear none of us are on the same page. Literally.

jca2's avatar

@Dutchess_III: In my cut and paste, it’s directly cut and pasted from the McD’s link posted by @JLeslie, and linked also by me.

In my cut and paste, At the very top, it states: “McDonalds Canada Ingredients Listing.” That’s taken directly from the link (site).

Dutchess_III's avatar

Post it again below. Don’t make me go looking and trying to guess what link, out of the 20 above, you’re talking about. The last one you posted DOES NOT OPEN FOR ME.

jca2's avatar

Also, see the little “ca” in the link? That’s “Canada.”

jca2's avatar

Here’s the McDonald’s US site. See how it says “us” in the link?

https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us.html

Dutchess_III's avatar

Thanks. But again, when I click on it it just blinks. It doesn’t open for me. Even if I right click and “open in a new tab” it just comes up blank.
And if I was looking for information the “ca” in the link wouldn’t mean jack. If I even noticed it I would assume “California.”

Dutchess_III's avatar

At any rate. I don’t care what they cook their fries in or how they prep them.

jca2's avatar

I was trying to show that @JLeslie‘s link was inaccurate, when she posted Canada’s ingredients. I know you don’t care, @Dutchess_III, as you’re not vegetarian. Neither am I. This whole tangent started when yesterday, @JLeslie told @Kardamom that McDonald’s fries were a vegetarian option.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I just wish I could see the links you posted. The fact that I can’t has created a shitstorm of misunderstanding for some reason.

Anyway, now we know that they can only be considered vegetarian in CA.

Brian1946's avatar

I just read that there’s a McD’s in Sedona, AZ that has turquoise arches:

“Due to the natural beauty of Sedona, mainly its iconic, rolling mountains of red rock, there are rules in place so that no structure in the city can infringe on its aesthetic. In 1993, a McDonald’s restaurant was built, but city officials claimed that the large yellow ‘M’ would disrupt the area’s natural beauty. Therefore, instead of accepting the clash of gold on red, McDonald’s changed the color of their letter, opting for a more neutral light blue.”

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Today I got pancakes from Mc Ds.

Dutchess_III's avatar

How interesting @Brian1946! Thanks.
