Do you like to entertain for the holidays?

Asked by lucillelucillelucille (34325points) November 27th, 2019

I’d rather inflict myself on loved ones at their home. :)

I have regular parties at my place. I have an annual party to decorate my Christmas tree. I’m looking forward to it this year, because I’ve invited a man I want to pursue romantically.

@Hawaii_Jake _That sounds fun:)
I hope it works out well for you and what ever you do, dress to impress

I generally do, this is my year off, which I’m planning to enjoy.

@KNOWITALL -I’m sure you will! Less work=more fun, IMO

Is entertaining hosting the party, or doing an act (dancing, stand upping, singing, mime)?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@rebbel -That is included but don’t pull this stunt

Crimbo is a time for family, but only in small doses.
We have a few close relatives around for lunch on the day itself & they return the favour on New Years Eve when we have a party at their place, usually fancy dress.

Having nothing to do but sit in their recliner and eat their food versus being a crazy person for a week prior and out of my mind for the 3 hours of the holiday festivities? I will get back to you after I think about this for a nano-second. Actually I do love to entertain, I am a great host and a great cook. Getting rid of the guests is actually the hard part of hosting a party. I am off the hook for this Thanksgiving and will have Christmas Eve to look forward having my annual food fest.

My immediate family have always been the primary entertainers; I didn’t always like it as a kid but I like it more now that I play a bigger role in putting it all together.

@lucillelucillelucille This is more what I have in mind.

I love to, but usually don’t.

@lucillelucillelucille I do. :) This year my parents and my aunt are handling most of the Thanksgiving cooking, but for Christmas I’m going to be cooking a goose (it was my idea).

@Demosthenes -I hope it all goes well for you but if not, be sure to post about it here. :)

I used to (and if you saw my rant on an earlier thread, you know we host all of them), but as I’ve gotten older, much less so. In fact, holidays kinda stress me out now. I really don’t enjoy them like I used to.

My house is fairly small. When I first moved here, 20 years ago, I would occasionally have a get together in the winter months and maybe one in the summer. In the summer, everyone would be on the deck. In the winter, it was cozy with people in the dining room.

I don’t do that now but I feel like maybe if I get the interior painted and get things freshened up, I might. I just got a new bathroom so the bathroom is beautiful and no longer an embarrassment. My job is busy with holiday parties which include hotel stays two weekends out of December. That makes it extra busy but maybe in a few years I will no longer be with this job.

I do love to look at beautiful holiday tablescapes on Pinterest and Instagram. I kind of live vicariously through that.

At this point the most I can hope for is to help out when someone else hosts.
I washed the dishes after today’s events at my son and DIL. They use paper plates, but at least I got to wash pots and pans and casserole dishes and wipe down the counter and the stove. And kids.

Tomorrow we’re going there to build a gingerbread house.
