What do you think the logic was behind designing waterbed sheets so that the fitted sheet and the top sheet are sewn together at the bottom?

We have a king size water bed and I just ordered two California King flat sheets. That’s all I’ve ever used is two flat sheets because fitted sheets do not work on a waterbed.
I wondered who came up with the idea of sewing them together and why? Why don’t they make them that way for regular beds?

Speaking as a 40-year waterbed user, the first thing I do when I buy waterbed sheets is to get a scissors and separate the topsheet from the bottom sheet. I don’t like being trapped there.

I think the reason they came up with that idea is that a California King is something like 84 inches long and 72 wide, and it’s sort of hard to spread the sheet across a bed that large.

But even single / twin sized waterbeds have those kinds of sheets. It’s just weird. I don’t know why people would even buy them. It’s much easier to work with regular bed sheets.

That’s an innovation that I don’t remember available when I had a waterbed for a couple of years back in the 70s. I would guess that sewing the sheets together is the remedy for the top sheet wandering around on the waterbed. I am surprised that 2 of us on this thread still have waterbeds.

I bought the thing when I was a bachelor, thinking it would be an adventure sex wise. WRONG! unless your love life is a circus act.

A bachelor is a single, right?

@stanleybmanly LOLL!! Yeah, it is a bit difficult at times!

Those water bed sheets were self defeating. If you pulled too hard on the top sheet, it just pulled the fitted sheet up. Now I just tuck everything in really tight and the sheets don’t wander.

@rebbel

Correct- a bachelor is a single (unmarried) organism.

I thought those things went out in the 70s? I had an overly horny female friend once who was always hitting on me. (Yeah, women do that too.) We found ourselves alone once in her boudoir (long story) and she asked me of I wanted to try her water bed. I used that line on her and walked out. She looked at me like I was smoking crack. Lol. Well can’t expect all the jokes to work..
