When it comes to new technology, are you an eager early adopter?

Asked by Jeruba (55829points) April 23rd, 2020

Do you like to jump on the latest device, upgrade, software, etc.?

Or do you resist the change and make it only when you’re forced into it? or never?

Examples please.

Awww, hellz no. I am late to the party every time. Smart phone? Years later. Ereader? Only after my sister made me. Never a new model type of a car. Didn’t get into Tevas until they were seriously passé.
This is not by design, I just never seem to know about stuff until everybody else is almost done with it.

Okay, not all tech, but explains in general.

No, because in most cases it is both buggy, and expensive.
Like the folding phones, that all started to fall apart almost immediately.

No, I usually don’t care about it until I need it. lol
I got rid of my last cell phone about 10 years ago and I don’t miss it.It was a serious PITA.
I did make my husband get one after his car died and he had to walk 11 miles home in the dark with a pack coyotes following close behind.

Nope not at all, let someone else pay the big bucks to be first and find all the glitches. for a cell phone I still only use a flip,I have no need for a smart phone.
Computers I will get the one I want several years down the line when the bugs have been ironed out and the price has come down.

I’ve got a Samsung S20+ Smart phone and a Samsung Galaxy Active2 smart watch in the last month.

I have a savings account at the bank which has money set aside for the new Apple MacBook Pro; due out in the next 8 weeks.

Not until I’ve let other people work the bugs out. For example I did not jump right on the smart phones until they made them less twitchy. Took about 4 years.

Optional devices no, for work yes. I often volunteer as a tester for new programs. Its fun to work with programmers to fix glitches.

Typically I am but it depends on what it is and the relative cost. When things are expensive I usually hold back for a few months to see if there are any issues. This is with new technology. The latest smartphone is usually not new tech, its just got upgraded bells and whistles. When Apple came out with the first iphone that was new.

I hear Apple is on the cusp of coming out with an AR device. I’ll be all over that when it comes out if it’s priced reasonably.

I’m usually slow to new technology for money reasons. I can afford it, but typically don’t want to part with the money if I have something already working that seems adequate.

Sometimes, I don’t realize what I’m missing. An example would be the TV DVR. I think it took me about 5 years to finally pay the extra $10 a month on my cable company bill and get a DVR. Now, I’m convinced it’s one of the best inventions in my lifetime.

Another example I was way behind others in getting a cell phone, and also very slow to get a smart phone. Mostly, because of the money.
