In the future could it be ethical or possible to have non cosmetic augmentations done to any living thing?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24486points) January 31st, 2022

Like extra organs or appendages.

If it was possible what cosmetic or non-cosmetic alterations would you like on any living thing, ie. plants, animals and humans or pets?

Humor welcome.

I would hope not. I don’t really even like the idea of cloning, it just seems to be messing with stuff you shouldn’t have the power to do. That isn’t a religious excuse, just a personal thing, we shouldn’t be fucking with how things are created naturally, unless it is super necessary.

@Jeruba Yes adding things. For example a third kidney or extra appendages. On a perfectly fine body.

Extra wings on a chicken for super bowl parties.

Teeth that don’t need daily maintenance.

@RedDeerGuy1, sorry, our posts coincided and I left you with a response to nothing.

I deleted my answer because it wasn’t about adding things, as your question specified. Instead I went on about the stuff we already do to improve ourselves surgically, but it was about removal.

Here is what I want to see:
The creation of a third biological sex, that has itself no sexual organs or features. No genitals, no breasts, no body hair except on the scalp.
The male and female sexes will be genetically reengineered into slug-like creatures, whose bodies contain nothing but sexual reproductive organs, and a basic digestive system, so you can feed them with a nutrient paste. No system of locomotion, and no brain, safe for a basic nervous system to control their organs.
They would only birth humans of the third gender, except when you feed/inject them a certain hormone, upon which they would birth males or females.

. . .and extra tenderloins on cattle? extra pig’s ears for dogs to munch on? extra breasts on turkeys? I thought you meant like extra kidneys or other organs so we would have more to transplant and save lives. ¯\(ツ)

Wings on pigs, because I want to see all the crap that will suddenly happen when pigs fly. So much has been promised

Lol. At least you are consistent.
