Why did Facebook decide today that I need to see bra ads?

Asked by janbb (62876points) June 14th, 2022

Do they know something about my boobs that I don’t know?

They heard you talk about it. They’ve been listening since 2001.

@Blackberry I don’t!

@Dutchess_III No, C ! :-)

Maybe cover up the web cam feature when you do your pole dance exercise routine.

They want to support you.

Zuck finally realized that there is money to be made in that area & he’s decided to tap into it!!!

Most women do not wear the right size bra.

Zaku's avatar

Well, it is Flag Day!

LadyMarissa's avatar

@kritiper That’s what those men want us to believe. Goes back to my original comment…there’s money to be made IF you can get the women to fall for it!!! The economy went to hell when women started burning their bras back in the 60’s & 70’s.

About Zuck listening in (or Google, etc.)...,
A week ago my sister-in-law’s sister gave me two bottles of eau de toilet.
One was based on Chanel’s BLEU, and the other one on Christian Dior’s forgot-the-name.
I didn’t search for it online.
Not before, not after (the presents came as a total surprise; it was my birthday, but she wasn’t aware of that fact).
I believe the same day, or else the day after, I get ads for BLEU from Chanel on my Google searches and other web pages.
You tell me; are they listening (well, some bots or something…)??

@Inspired_2write It’s not that simple. I’ve been down those settings and just checked them again. Most of my selections are forbidding ads but there are still plenty that come.

Because FB asked me if I want to see bra ads and I responded, “No. Send it to any of the members on this website called Fluther.”

janbb's avatar

@mazingerz88 So it’s your fault!

rebbel's avatar

By the way, I thought you ladies had burned these torture tools in the seventies?

canidmajor's avatar

@mazingerz88, they gave up on me years ago. Now it’s weird yard maintenance tools.

@rebbel , for some, torture. For others, the only reason I can go up and down stairs without pain.

It’s called Capitalism folks. Anything for a Buck, just run it up the flagpole and see who salutes.

I was on Grindr and opened the profile of a man who displays the Israeli flag with his bio, and now I see ads in Hebrew on Grindr. I laughed out loud.

Forever_Free's avatar

Damn, that happened to me too.

Clearly there’s something wrong when you can’t open an app without being hit with a firehose of half-naked women.

@rebbel….I keep forgetting to ask my carrier, US Cellular, if there is some internal microphone in my phone, and can I disable it.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@rebbel Mine made a pretty blue flame back in 1972 & I still DON’T miss it!!! :}

Given the penguin status, I can only assume they were collecting data from your polar “ice caps”

I’ve been getting a lot of bra and underwear ads for the past two weeks, on my Facebook feed. I don’t know why – I haven’t googled anything like that.

Sometimes if I get an ad too often and it’s annoying, I click on the “why am I seeing this” and then I can click on that it doesn’t interest me, and the ads stop. I used to have my college degree in my profile, and I was getting ads for obtaining an Master’s Degree. I clicked on “Why am I seeing this” and it said because of my degree, the assumption was that I would be a candidate for a Master’s Degree. I clicked on “stop seeing this” and it stopped.

I did recently “re-set” my feed by clicking on a real estate ad, and now I see lots of ads for beautiful, local real estate that’s for sale. I am not interested in buying real estate now but I like to see the houses and the decor.

janbb's avatar

@jca2 Yeah, I always hide, say “irrelevent” and when I click on why am I seeing this, it’s usually something like “the advertiser is targeting women in the US” so that doesn’t help much. But my bra ads have gone now.
