If you could substitute all civic and religious holidays for your own what would you pick?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24463points) April 10th, 2023

Like birthdays, playoffs, or anything?

What would you pick?

Humor welcome.

Include vacation time and spring break.

Also would you like to be given the choice to pick your own days off?

Everyday is a Holiday for me. I celebrate just breathing.

If I worked M-F 9–5 and didn’t have kids, I’d want the Monday and Tuesday two weeks after all the Monday holidays not including Labor Day, and I’ll give up some other holiday if I need to. Give me a four day holiday to travel when other people aren’t traveling. It’s cheaper and less crowded.

I wouldn’t care about celebrating anything on a specific day for practical purposes.

If I can’t have that I guess my anniversary in March and my half birthday in July since I live in Florida.

The best is to have floating days that you can use whenever you want.

@JLeslie Floating days sounds awesome. I would like days off where I don’t have to give notice. In junior high school, I took a day off whenever I needed it. It was under the radar of truant officers until I told them. I asked the teacher about the week and decided when to attend.

I don’t think floating days works well for students, although now that you mention it, maybe two a year would be a really nice perk for kids.

Solstices and equinoxes. They signal seasons and are based on actual, observable events. They would make good universal holidays to replace religious ones.
Fall festivals, halloween type stuff on the autumnal equinox, family, Christmas type stuff on the winter solstice. Spring celebrations for nature and this planet that we need more of on the vernal equinox and the summer solstice we would celebrate service and community.

Not sure about eradicating all holidays in place of one, but I don’t give a rip about Saint Patrick’s Day and would replace with Lewis and Clark Expedition Day to be observed on May 14.

I wouldn’t choose to do that, but if I had to, Spring, Summer and Fall-at least in my area. Perhaps as @Blackwater_Park mentioned. We need to immerse ourselves in the seasons!
I’m going mushroom hunting right now actually. Spring is so beautiful I took PTO.

I’m not entirely sure, but I reasonably confident that celebrating Hol would be mandatory to qualify for getting Labor Day off.
