Is the Neptune Society for real, or is it a scam?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33171points) July 4th, 2023

I got a postcard from the Neptune Society, inviting me to a lunch at a restaurant nearby. They say that they want to give information about “simple and affordable” cremation services.

I’m intending to be cremated, but is the Neptune Society the way to go? Why not a ‘regular’ funeral home?

Their postcard’s wording is a lot like the old timeshare invitations that turned into being hard-sell sales pressure. But this guys might be legit.

Does anyone know if they’re for real?

They do seem to be quite a sketchy outfit.

I tend to be leery of things like that. YOu know their main goal is to sell you stuff, and they’ll take your contact info and hound you incessantly. No thank you. I’ll stay home and eat my own fifteen dollar lunch and not have to deal with being hounded and sold stuff.

My wife signed up for it. I think it’s probably fine.

Advert stuff that get’s crammed in my mailbox goes into the recycle bin and I won’t do business with them.

…or they would not resort to mass mailing.

Shop around. Maybe Neptune is worth it, maybe you will find something better.

Based on this information, I am going to decline their lunch invitation.
