How much is the iPhone without resigning your contract?

I already have AT&T but I’m not due for an upgrade yet. I know I can buy it anyway, but does it really cost $800? I just read that on some forum a few minutes ago.

I believe it is $549 or $599 for the 8gb version. For that price, and the cost of service, I think it would be worthwhile to wait.
