Asked by stink111 (16points) October 17th, 2008

I get so ticked off at people on youtube for talking about stuff they dont even know about. Also everytime I look up a video there is someone argueing does youtube even have where they take them off of youtube when they curse and stuff? Im thinking about never going on that website again, or am i just over reacting what do you think?

I’m new to it myself, but I think there should be some kind of filter, or better catagorization so that we don’t have to click on “The best (whatever) ever!” only to see that some kid with a camcorder shooting himself dancing in his underwear.

I think that you need to use some more periods.

Youtube is retarded. There’s so much detritus, if I’m ever on the site at all, it’s because a search from elsewhere sent me there. This XKCD comic sums up the youtube user base: http://xkcd.com/202/

One might find that people on YouTube know what they’re talking about roughly as often as do people on Fluther, or any other similar site where the general public can post pretty much anything.

My brother and sister made a utube clip when we made sauerkraut in Aug. The sound is not good, as it is the first “movie” we ever made- but I can assure you the information is correct. We have been making it this way for over 40 years, and my grandparents from Germany made it that way, with the same kraut cutter, since the late 1800’s. (The sauerkraut you see being made it done now, and is wonderful!)
Pork roast with brown sugar glazed (home made) sauerkraut is fit for a king!

@laureth – Well said. Since Youtube is popular, it suffers under the strain of a lot of crap (or should I say detritus?). But there is a nice proportion of good stuff, too.

The most viewed videos get irregular viewers and a large number of trolls. There are plenty of people who actually do post thoughtful comments and videos (especially vloggers), but it may take a while to find those posts, since they rarely make it to the front page.

Gail, it sounds like you’re somewhat enamored of rot and decay…?

stink, are you talking about the people in the videos themselves, the people who posted them, or the people who commented on them?

As far as the comments, I agree that they’re a bunch of crap. My solution is to use youtube for viewing videos, not for chatting about them with strangers. I watch whatever videos I want, and I never bother to read the comments anymore. It works out beautifully.

Hola, chica :

No, just a fan of those who use interesting words. I consider most of the 4–5 minute videos a gigantic waste of time for both makers and viewers (except the ones that taught me how to peel and eat a mango without needing a new paint job in kitchen.)

Gail, I know what you mean. I don’t watch the ‘home-movie’ type stuff that much. i mostly watch bloopers of politicians, clips of the daily show and other comedy, music videos i’m too cheap to buy or i want to listen to in full before deciding; i do watch home movies of people’s puppies on occasion. yes, there is a lot of interesting stuff on youtube.
