I play doctors and nurses, but only at work.

Nope.
Yup.
You?

Co-pay?
Coldplay?

If you are indeed serious, This should be your answer.

In short, cosplay is short for “costume play”.

robmandu's avatar

Is it like an anime-version of a Star Trek convention?

Nimis's avatar

It’s like Harajuku meets Comic-Con.

squirbel's avatar

I don’t, but I’d be willing to. I might, someday.

Nimis's avatar

I don’t think my attention span is long enough
to put an entire outfit together -it’s a lot of work!

jtvoar16's avatar

I do. God, I am sad because I usually go as something that no one has ever heard of or seen.
Like the boy in Invader Zim that wore the “Smell?” shirt. I love when other super nerds see that and scream some Zim quote at me.
And yes, to answer your other question, I do, in fact, cosplay at random times, including, but not limited to when I go to the mall.

Not personally, because it draws attention and I like to blend in with the walls as much as possible. But I do attend the sorts of conventions where there are lots of cosplayers. I love seeing all the creativity and talking to people about how they came up with their ideas and made their costumes. I also have several friends who do cosplay and I love helping them pick and choose and create. So much fun.

shadling21's avatar

I once was tempted to cosplay, but I knew no one who would do it with me.

jtvoar16's avatar

I’ll go with you next time shadling21! We can goes as… mmmm, how about, something fun and something else that is fun.
I have been working on a Sandman costume, I am having a problem boring out the core of my soul to replace my eyes with, what can only be describe as, the screams of light left by the dreams of all the things that ever dreamed.
So, ya, I’m going to be working on that one for a while! If I can’t do that, I think I’m going to settle on some costume contacts.

shadling21's avatar

@jtvoar – I laughed out loud. Thanks!

Now that I think about it, I could cosplay for Halloween. People won’t get my costume, but they never do anyway.

jtvoar16's avatar

@shadling21 what would that be? if you don’t mind me asking?

shadling21's avatar

@jtvoar – I don’t really have a cosplay ready. But my original Halloween costume plan was to go as a member of the Jabbawockeez. A surprising number of people have not heard of them.

jtvoar16's avatar

Fantastic! I love doing that! Picking people and things no one knows about, thus showing off my awesome nerdyness\geekness\lonely journeys on the interwebs!
I am going as “The Joker” this session, I sculpted my own scares, just like the movies and I found a site that told me how to get the makeup right, just like they did in the movie. I even spent the money on a custom fit suite modeled after the one in the movie (wow I have used that word a lot). I even went as far as getting a prop shot gun with blanks for my friend’s party!
As for my cosplay I am going this year as the character in my upcoming novel named Jett. I am an extremest when it comes to my costumes, can you tell?

delirium's avatar

Personally? No. But I do costumes and makeup for people who do, once in a a while.

jtvoar16's avatar

WOO! I’m so happy to see Delirium again! YAY!
I would hug you, but then I would go more mad then I already am.

delirium's avatar

Hi! I… have a fanclub!

shadling21's avatar

I’m going to cosplay as Delirium one day.

delirium's avatar

The character or the fluther user?

shadling21's avatar

Fluther user.

You.

I only just made the connection between the Neil Gaiman comics, your username, and your profile picture. I am slow, aren’t I?

delirium's avatar

Hahaha, the fact that you EVER picked up on the char reference is all that matters. NO ONE knows who it is save for a very very small few. Delirium is my muse.

shadling21's avatar

Sweet! I never read The Sandman, only a few short stories Gaiman wrote based off of it. It led to a bit of confusion, but it was nevertheless interesting.

jtvoar16's avatar

My muse is of the utmost majesty. I listen only to Despair, for her wonderful hook finds its way into my side everyday. Its sting is like a blanket, a shawl of twisted love.
Or is it perhaps Desire that I follow? For if there were not desire to suffer, I would have no muse, but then, as it is said, all things come from Dream, for to want is to dream, so then I must conclude that my muse is only but The Lord Shaper, Himself:
Morpheus.

Can you tell I read a lot of his work?

MacBean's avatar

People who don’t know about the Endless make me sad. It must be such a dismal existence.

I love Neil Gaiman SO MUCH.

jtvoar16's avatar

I would not say so much people don’t know about The Endless, as they don’t realize they know them, for there are two of the Endless that will be embraced by everyone, we can not escape them.

Trust me I have tried. They get really, really, REALLY, pissed. Except Destiny, he seems pretty chill.

simone54's avatar

Maybe you should explain is it is.

jtvoar16's avatar

@simone54:
??

delirium's avatar

Hahahaha, Its nice to find that so many people recognize reference to the endless. It makes me warm and cheery.
