What specific communication concepts are powering the change/addressing the need of a non profit organization?

It might help to know who is asking this question for a frame of reference.
But off the top of my head, and given what I know about non profits, I would say that communication between them and their funding sources on both fiscal and programmatic levels are critical so what communication concepts are useful in that context….
Perhaps programs that communicate units of service or charges to the funding source, those types of things.
