Anyone else here have a thing about their food not touching?

Asked by loser (15032points) December 6th, 2008

As long as I can remember I’ve always had this thing about different items on my plate not touching each other. When I was young I had to eat sandwiches all seperated ie: first a slice of bread, then eat the tomato or whatever, etc., and then end with the other slice of bread. (I don’t do that now, BTW!) Also, I eat all of one thing and move onto the next. I was just wondering how unique I am with this.

I hate my food to touch also. I had 2 plates at Thanksgiving so my food wouldn’t touch each other. My family thinks I’m nuts.

I was like that as a kid and have kind of grown out of it (some foods can, some foods omg!cannot!). My little cousin is like that now. (@Chyna: He always has two plates so that nothing touches. Always.)

i don’t do this. but i have a friend who thinks like that. except unlike you, she still eats her sandwiches one part at a time. going out to lunch/dinner with her is a long process lol.

I’m totally a mixer: in my mouth and on my plate.

Yeah, I like mixing food, too. My absolute favorite combination is to take a piece of a roll, put some mashed potatoes mixed with corn on it, some turkey on top of that and then cranberry sauce on top. Yum!

I am excruciating to eat with too. Corn juice cannot touch my mashed potatoes, juice from green beans cannot touch my corn juice, so they don’t get on the same plate. But it’s okay for certain foods to touch, but they can’t be juicy foods. Gee, and I wonder why I’m single?

I only don’t like things that look gross together to touch

Only if the residue of one food will make the other food disgusting. Like a roll soggy with vegetable liquid, or mayonnaise on the cookies, or some other unholy miscegenation thereof.

I’m that way! But there is an exception. When I eat Chinese I just put in a giant pile.

@chyna…I found my people!! I can’t stand when my food touches!!

My best friends and husband got together and bought me 7 divided plastic plates and then added the days of the week on them. Funny people.

chyna's avatar

@cak I hope to meet people like that someday…

Days of the week, that’s great!

Yea! I’m not alone!!!

I prefer they don’t.

Depends on which foods. When eating Fish and Chips, I prefer my fish not to touch my chips.

I’m not that way, but I knew of someone who not only didn’t want her food to touch, she didn’t want anyone else’s food to touch hers (whether wrapped or in containers) while it sat in the company frig. She would be honored to know you all!

I’m with Laureth on the foods not touching each other if they would foul each other up. However, my real food ‘thing’ has to do with dairy items. No one can touch or take a bite or sip of any of my dairy products. If you take a bite of my cereal or ice cream, it’s yours. If you hand me a piece of cheese, I won’t eat it. I know several other people with this same weirdness.

joni1977's avatar

@ Augustlan: now I actually agree with you 101% on the dairy foods. I can hardly stomach the look of the milky residue on my own spoon after taking a bite of cereal!

i know people at church dinners who, at the end of the line, put the cake right on top of the collard greens. then they say, “hey it’s all going down the same way.”

it really dont bother me

I have been this way since I was little and its gotten worse now that Im older. I used to just be that way with certain foods and when I had seconds I had to completely wash my plate so the old food wouldn’t mix with the new. Now I have to have divided plates at my house. And when Im at a resturant I have to get extra bowls and cups. No one gets it but when my food touches it drives crazy and I just keep thinking about it until I can’t eat it.

@sjmc1989 I so relate!!!

LouisianaGirl's avatar

I accually like mixing my food together.

sjmc1989's avatar

@LouisianaGirl that actually freaks me out when I see people around me doing that. I just try not to look.

chyna's avatar

@sjmc1989 Me too. If I look at it or think about it long enough, I just can’t eat. I don’t even go to buffets because I can’t watch someone walk by me that has their food piled up.

sjmc1989's avatar

@chyna That is so funny me and my mother went to a buffet probably a week ago and there was a guy with a plate full of corn, chicken, gravy, and mashed potatoes and everything was running on everything else and I freaked out and had to make sure I got everything In bowls.
