Recommended Settings for Airport Extreme File Sharing?

Asked by anonyjelly16 (747points) February 26th, 2009

I just hooked up a WD My Book Studio Edition II USB Drive to the USB port on my Airport Extreme router. It appears that I can only have one partition on the drive otherwise Airport is unable to share it out.

Can anyone recommend settings that will allow read/write access from both Mac and Windows? It seems like FAT is my only choice here.

If you have a similar setup, please let me know how you set it up and why.

Thank you!

I have done this in my house so my brother & I could share movies in the house. What we did, was just set up one of the internal hard drives in his windows computer & made it a network drive. Which the drive is shared through the network that is connected right ot the computer. One my computer, I just scan the area for local networks & the hard drive shows up & I was able to drag/drop items from his hard drive onto my computer.
