Have you ever been woken up by the sounds of artillery and heavy machine guns?

The joys of working at/near a major exercise range. When you’re down wind, the sound CARRIES.

No but I have heard stories.
Do you think that may be why FGS can sleep through fire alarms and tornado sirens? ;)

After 21 years in the military, I can attest to being woken up by the sounds of many different types of weapons systems. You don’t always have to be downwind either to get an earful from all of that.

I was in Jerusalem when the tanks were being rolled into Bethlehem in 2001. I could hear the gunfire in the distance. For some reason I still wasn’t afraid.

once when i fell asleep watching Enemy at the gates… does that count?

although living in Tijuana you kinda get used to the gunfire… not so much the artillery

No, and I’m very grateful for that. It’s probably very loud and scary.

No. BUT, i’ve heard cannons going off not too far from here – practicing or something, not sure what they’re doing. But it sounds scary…..it makes me think of dinosaurs walking – it sounds like that scene in Jurassic Park, where they’re stuck in the tour car, and they hear the T-Rex footsteps – yeah! It sounds like that! Gives me the creeps…. LOL!
