What are some of your favorite features on this site?

Asked by Dansedescygnes (2881points) April 1st, 2009

One thing I like is that there is no “downvote” button on a person’s comment. You can flag it, but there’s no “thumbs down” like on Yahoo Answers. I think that would just make people feel bad. At least, when it was implemented on AIROW, there was a lot of complaining about it.

I also like that you can delete messages posted on your profile and of course, the Live Preview thing is awesome.

though it’s via Campfire, the chat is great.

the live preview is nice, as is PM.

It would be nice if posts could be time stamped

I absolutely agree. Also, and I may be the ONLY one who feels this way, I think the “STOP FOLLOWING” belongs at the BOTTOM of the page. I’ll be alerted to activity of an old question. Then I’ll read the new activity, THEN decide I want to stop following.

Considering what all it’s gotta do, the site is quite fast most of the time. I like that bendrew always keep speedy performance as a top consideration when contemplating new features/additions.

Mr_M's avatar

That’s true SO THAT when the site is having a rare problem (like last night) a message ought to be posted on the home page so that people know it’s not them (especially with this “April 1” virus scare going around).

I like the design.

Oh yah, and that the advertising is considerately placed not to interfere with flow and that it’s tasteful in appearance, matching the rest of the page’s look and feel.

The mobile version. It works great on a iPhone/iPod Touch.

@johnpowell

Oh, I have an iPhone, I need to use that!

I like being able to give GA’s right on the posts, being able to do the @ thing to talk to someone & having the live preview feature.

I also like that there is no down vote. I would like to see some kind of date on answers. I never know if I’m answering something that might be months old and obsolete, but I can live without that feature. I think the guys do a great job with this site and I feel like I have found a comfortable place to hang out. Oh, and did I mention that I find the inhabitants here to be quite friendly and helpful?

Mr_M's avatar

I like how, when you ask a question, if YOU, yourself, didn’t give GA to a post, it stays underlined.

i like jellyfish. i like that i can ask questions about totally random things. and i like that i get heckled here… but the BEST thing about this site is that it’s accessible from work! yay!

I like the our lurve scores are negative on April Fool’s Day.

No leaderboard: no whoring for points to get your avatar on a front page
Flagging: keeps the dumbasses at bay because site moderators here give a damn
Chatroom: that’s where the fun and crazy cut loose and also where site usuage questions get answered nicely
Better quality of questions: no grandstanding with endless pics of your pets, kids or my all time bane of existence, the “tag you’re it” game

The fact that there are moderators is a great thing. If you want to see what would happen to this site if there was none, just go to Askville. I know it’s very difficult to achieve but there should be more consistency with the moderation, ex., A few weeks ago I was admonished about posting a funny response in the first post position, yet I’ve never seen anyone else get the same warning.

Bluefreedom's avatar

I like all of the features for the most part. I’m easy.

fireside's avatar

@Bluefreedom – that’s what all the ladies have been saying about you

J0E's avatar

I like the chat, live commenting, and the lurve.

What I think would make it awesome would be being able to see someone’s latest comments…like at you know where.

the personal profiles, different style with text.
