Has anyone been involved in Peace Corps or AmeriCorps?

What are the pros and cons of either, in your opinion? I am looking to apply for one or the other of the programs next year. If you have any stories of past experiences with either of these programs, please share. Also, if you think there are some lesser known alternatives out there that are also good, please let me know. Thank you.

I was an Americorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) for a year after college. They do pay you about minimum wage during that year, and then after the year you get money toward higher education. I am in Texas and got about 7,000 dollars towards school, not sure if that is different in other states. I can tell you that it was a very rewarding experience for me and I am now working for a nonprofit because of it. What else would you like to know?
