Does the self tanner brand "Fake Bake" work well? Has anyone tried it before?

Just from experience, has anyone tried this product before? Please let me know the results and your skin type if so…

I should offer full disclosure – fake tans and how they look is a huge pet peeve for me. That being said, there was a girl at work who used to use Fake Bake brand and it made her look really orange and dry. In the spots where she had dry skin on her face, or lines, the fake bake settled in and made those darker. I say avoid it at all costs. If you really, really want to fake tan, stick with the professional services and go really lightly. Fake tanning is really hard to pull off.

If you just want a little color for your face, go with a basic makeup bronzer. It looks way more natural and gives you a healthy and realistic glow.

Fake tanning is tricky, yes. I’ve tried different brands & they all come out fine except for feet, ankles & knees. Yes, I exfoliate like a fiend. I’ve tried all the tricks like putting Vaseline on my knees, using less, blah, blah, blah. I’m very fair skinned & it gets to looking pretty sad. I’ve just given up on it. I look better pale than having these odd looking patches. If I had the time & money, I’d go get sprayed, but I don’t.

Is there a way I can get that same spray tan at home instead of a salon? We don’t have a spray tan place in town.

No – the thing about spray tan is that they put you in a booth (naked if you want) and then spray you evenly with fine mist done by machine. This is what ensures somewhat consistent coverage.

@jdogg: Actually there is, but you buy the equipment and have to have someone else do it for you. I’ve seen it on those shows about those 5 year old beauty queens. The mothers bring them, and spray the kids in the hotel bathtub a few hours before the show. Here‘s a demo with tips from one company that makes the equipment.
