Is there a version of Skype available for a Mac with a G3 processor?

Asked by richardhenry (12692points) December 25th, 2007

The specifications page at http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/macosx/ (scroll to the bottom) shows a requirement of a G4 processor or above. Did older versions of Skype support G3 processors? Where can they be downloaded?

Thanks! If the answer is no, does anyone recommend a good VOIP client for OS X?

ichat has voice chatting built in… might that serve your needs?

The G3 processor isn’t powerful enough to encode and decode audio on the fly using modern codecs. If you have an application that can scale to very low quality compression, you might be able to get some kind of chat going, but true VOIP is probably not an option. Video, obviously, is right out.

Thanks, but I managed to find one – Skype for Mac 1.5 seems to run just fine on the G3.
