How Do I De-Clump My Nail Polish?

Asked by desiree333 (3241points) July 1st, 2009

My favourite nail polish is all clumpy and when I put it on it looks gross. Does anyone know a trick to make it smooth and less thick?

Just put a tiny drop of polish remover in it and shake it real well. You may have to do it a couple times. It works for me. It should help.

@Ashalah thanks, I hope it works :)

The nail polish remover trick should work, but be aware that nail polish can get contaminated with bacteria and should be thrown away if that happens.

if you cant get it unclumped with nail polish remover, you just have to get new nailpolish

@SLinSL yeah I probably will, but its not even a year old. I hope they still sell the same kind!

OMG don’t listen to them!!! First of all, remover will break down the pigment in the polish and ruin it. Second of all, bacteria CAN NOT grow in polish.

Go to Sally’s and purchase nail polish thinner. Add a few drops to your polish and it will be as good as new. I’ve used it on polishes I’ve had for 10+ yrs with great success. Basically what the thinner does is it replaces the chemicals that have evaporated from your polish thus leaving it thick. Polish can last more than your life time if you use thinner.

@SweetTarte Ouuuu great idea, I didn’t know adding nail polish remover would ruin them.
