My girlfriend and I are taking a roadtrip from NYC to Pittsburgh and Cleveland this weekend. Does anyone have any good food recommendations for either city?

There is an awesome place with cheese bagels on the main drag in Squirrel Hill area of Pittsburgh, and a few other great places…i will get back to you with specifics and more suggestions tomorrow.

In Cleveland, RoadFood recommends the corned beef here.

Traditional Polish food of note can be found here in Cleveland.

Bagel place: Schwartz Bagels, 3615 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA‎ – (412) 682–2558‎; but I heard they may have gone out of business, so call before you go.

My favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh: The Point Restaurant, 401 Hastings St, Pittsburgh, PA‎ – (412) 441–3334‎. It’s a Belgian place with great food, beer, and atmosphere. Make a reservation if you are going on a weekend, but the wait is not bad if you can’t – about ½ hour

If you want a taste of true Pittsburgh food, you must go to Primanti Bros. in the Strip – they’re famous for their all-in-one sandwiches, where they put the french fries and cole slaw right on the sandwich. So tasty!

I’d definitely go to the original one in the Strip District – it’s got great Pittsburgh atmosphere, and it’s right down the street from Klavon’s, which is an authentic 1920’s ice cream parlor. If you go there, make sure you get the amaretto whipped cream on whatever you have – it’s amazing.

Have a great trip, and enjoy Pittsburgh – we’ve got tons of good food here!

i agree—go to primantis in pittsburgh. there’s nothin like it.
also, in oakland there is the famous “O” which would probably hit the spot if you want something greasy like a hot dog and 3 pounds of fries

@deni My mouth is watering at the thought of O fries – definitely a good recommendation!

@rawpixels How was your trip? Did you get your fill of tasty food?

Hello folks. Thanks for the recommendations! Ok, my trip was fantastic! We went to Primanti Brothers (The original) for lunch in Pittsburgh and it was TOO GOOD! Wow, I would drive back there just for another sandwich! We then went to the Pirates game and ate some bar food at a place called Finegan’s Wake. The next day, we drove to Cleveland and had lunch at a place called Harry Buffalo (very tasty wings & pulled pork. My girlfriend had a bison burger that was incredible). After the Indians game, we went to a very nice restaurant called Crop. All in all, a great trip and definitely some tasty food!

@rawpixels Glad you had a good time in Pittsburgh – aren’t the sandwiches at Primanti’s heavenly? Next time you’re passing through, you should try to stop by the museum and check out the dinosaurs – another Pittsburgh tradition!

I’ve been having dreams about the sandwiches at Primanti’s :)
