What are some cool diy craft projects?

Asked by Ashalah (402points) August 9th, 2009

I am on a kick. I have been doing all sorts of things, but now I need some inspiration. Any ideas would be much appreciated. And if you have a suggestion can you please attach direction as well. Thanks in advance!

Gosh I just erased my entire reply because I temporarily forgot one of the primary rules of the Internet.

@aronnax – did you get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Why bother to answer? If you feel that way – that’s fine. keep it to yourself!

@Ashala. I just recently saw a really neat idea on Lifehacker that showed how to make your own mousepad.

This way it can be any size which suits you and whatever fabric you like

Unfortunately my phone can’t yet do copy/paste but if you go to their site and type it into their site search it should come right up.

Wow, what a crappy answer from the newbie @aronnax. No surprise though!

@Ashalah, I do tons of crafts. I follow a bunch of blogs that post daily crafts. Here are some that I like:
Totally Tutorials is very new but it’s getting started.
Sew Mama Sew is a great blog with all sorts of sewing advice.
Pink Penguin This girl makes the cutest crafts and they’re all done by hand. Her posts are always fun to read and she loves sharing how to make her items.
Mairuru is similar to the blog above, hand made crafts by a quaint Japanese girl.
Two cheese please is a cool Australian girl who does a variety of crafts including stamp carving.

As for words from my own mouth, well I’ve been doing fiber arts recently, including felting and spinning yarn. Those have been very fun indeed!

Go to a thrift shop or Goodwill and find something that needs to be given new life.

I do it all the time. It’s cheap and satisfying.

Remaking furniture/home decor is awesome. As @erniefernandez says, find things at thrift stores, yard sales, or just left by the curb. A little sandpaper and paint, and you’ve got a custom piece! Decoupage is cheap and pretty easy once you get the hang of it. You can use this method to transform shoe boxes into beautiful storage boxes, or an unfinished anything into custom art.

My favorite is making gifts for charity from yarn and plastic canvas Most of the books listed contain basic instructions on how to do it.

I also have a lap loom that I can take anywhere and do my weaving.

I like making yoga pants. Craftster is a great resource.
