How can I post pictures from my iPods photo library to here or other sites?

Asked by Tink (8673points) August 12th, 2009 from iPhone

I want to learn how to post them, I’ve tried coping and pasting them but all that appears is IMG_0343.JPG
how can I encode it so it will be visible?

You can’t. You have to upload it to an image hosting site, after importing them to your pc.

So I sync my pictures to the PC then I can do it?

Fluther doesn’t support embedded pictures. The best you can do is link to a site that has the picture, like Flickr or Facebook or Smugmug or others.

You need to copy the physical files off of your Mac to whatever site you want to host them. Copy & paste cannot do that. Wrong paradigm.

What version of iPhoto are you running? The latest has built-in support for uploading to Facebook and Flickr.

Where specifically do you want to post the pics? Other than your avatar, there’s not much place for pictures “here” on Fluther.

Regardless, Fluther does give a good example on how to physically upload files. Click here and you’ll be on the “Upload a new avatar image” page. Notice that “Choose file” button? Click it and you’ll be prompted to locate a physical file on your Mac for upload.

Where are the physical files in iPhoto? They’re stored on disk in a simple date-based directory structure. I believe (not on a Mac right now) that if you select a pic in iPhoto, hit Command-I you’ll see the Get Info dialog. Somewhere in there is possibly a path to the physical location of the file.—Or—You can drag the pic from iPhoto to your desktop and then point the Choose File dialog to that copy.

@shilolo Oh, I don’t have any picture sharing site, I made this picture myself.

@robmandu I don’t have a Mac, I wanted to make it to my avatar.

Uploading files won’t work from mobile Safari. It doesn’t allow it.

If you are desperate you can try to e-mail me the photo and your password on Fluther. Directions are here.

I know this is less then ideal. But I will change the photo then you can change your password.

This seems like the only way if you can’t get on a computer to do it. You could also ask a mod if you are more comfortable with them doing it.

If you want to do that sand me a PM and I will send you my email addy.

edit :: It looks like photobucket has a iPhone/Touch app that lets you upload.

That will work for most stuff but not changing your avatar here. Fluther doesn’t allow uploads from sites for them. It needs to be a file on the local machine.

whoops… sorry, I think I got confused when you said “sync to PC”

Tink's avatar

@johnpowell Haha thanks, I’ll do it when I have a picture I really want to upload. I just wanted to post my drawing on some other site.

@robmandu Oh I’m sorry, I say sync and I don’t realize it’s meant for a Mac

robmandu's avatar

No, no. Sync is the right word for Mac or PC. Purely my fault.

oh, it’s aokay

@Tink1113 :: Give the Photobucket app a try. It should give you a URL that you can post most places. Linking to images isn’t really a problem.

The thing with the avatars here is that Fluther actually hosts the images on their servers. But if you want you can add a link to a image in a comment here.

I sort of have a problem with Photobucket so I can’t do it there.

Yes!!! That bottom part is exactly what I want to do. How?

jrpowell's avatar

You might want to try this app out. Sorry, but it isn’t free. I’m assuming you don’t have a credit/debit card.

Tink's avatar

I have $5 left over in my iTunes account so I can get it :)
so it will work with that?

jrpowell's avatar

It might. I haven’t used it but it sounds like it will work. And Realmac has been making software for probably about as long as you have been alive.

You should be able to upload a picture and it will give you a URL to post on forums. You should be able to just copy and paste it.

Tink's avatar

Thanks for the info I’ll try it

shilolo's avatar

You can use Tinypic for free. It should spit out a URL for you after you upload your picture.

Tink's avatar

I tried Tinypic but it won’t let me upload any pictures with out the computer.

jrpowell's avatar

@shilolo :: Tink is only on a iPod Touch. Any site with a “browse” button will not work. Safari will not locate stuff in the filesystem.

I got the app, this is the pic I wanted to upload, thanks to @Grisaille’s idea :)
