What are the definition of these triangles?

Asked by xTheDreamer (897points) October 6th, 2009

I’ve been seeing a lot of these triangles lately and I was wondering what it was meant?

Here’s a picture of the triangles: http://23.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kr3yzoPRa81qzxqito1_500.jpg

I’ve noticed that a guy had tattooed some of these triangles on his arms and he said it has to do with the band Owl City but I think it’s more than that.

P.S I know these triangles means Delta but I’m looking for another definition of it.

My best speculation is that this has something to do with this or this

Maybe this is a symbol for a very specific “group” in your area. The rainbow colors have my thoughts leaning toward one group more than another. Maybe the guy didn’t want to come out and say it to you.

Other than the song Rainbow Veins, I couldn’t find an exact connection to the band and that symbol.

However, when I looked on here

I read this: The rainbow flag has inspired a wide variety of related symbols such as the freedom rings, the RainbowCoin, Rainbow Triangles and Color Bars.

And then on here

You’ll find the meaning behind each triangle and it’s color.

I think it’s just a design. I don’t think it has any special meaning.

@SpatzieLover Oh, the color doesn’t really matter it’s just that I’ve stumbled on that picture so I’ve posted it as an example. The guy didn’t really had any color for his triangle though. But well maybe it does have to do with gay. Who knows.

Compact arrangement of triangles?

It may have to do with they symbol ∆ (delta), particularly, perhaps, in the genotype context, where it is used to denote ‘knockout’ or ‘null mutation.’ E.g., VIP1Δ.

I have also seen similar motifs in both pacific islander tattoos and Native American art.

In Christianity, the equilateral triangle is the symbol of the Trinity. Other geometric shapes representing the Holy Trinity are the trefoil, the triquetra, the circle within the triangle, the triangle in the circle and the triquetra and circle. To the ancient Egyptians, the triangle was an emblem of Godhead; to the Pythagoreans, it symbolized wisdom. Another use of the triangle is in the symbol of the eye (Eye of God) surrounded by a triangle. It’s a powerful symbol, to say the least.
