Who is J Mano, and why is he on my jacket?

Asked by TheRocketPig (612points) October 27th, 2009

I just picked up this track top off of the Adidas website and was wondering who the J Mano signature belonged to on the sleeve. The most I could find on the web was that:

+ He is a man.
+ He wore an Adidas 83-C style jacket.
+ He may have first bought it in Japan.

As far as anything else… I got nuthin. I’m sure it’s something easy, I’ve never been much of a “sports guy” and honestly would like to know just for the fact of knowing more about actually what is on my jacket.

Apparently it is simply a marketing ploy by Adidas, building on some poor schmuck’s sense of style. Even Adidas doesn’t know who he is or was according to this.

the “j. Mano” story goes like this..

designers for adidas were @ a thrift shop lookiing for inspiration for designs when they cam upon a track jacket w/ “83-C” on the front and “J. Mano” on the sleeve, so they recreated the jacket w/ the embroidery on it w/o knowing who ‘J. Mano” was.. also inside the jacket they stiched inside “j.mano, get in touch” not knowing who j. mano is.. needless to say the jacket became a hit. Eventually J. Mano surfaced.. he was actually a mechanic who changed tires on a race track in mexico named “83-C”
