What is peak Trick-or-Treating time?

Asked by hannahsugs (3243points) October 31st, 2009

I want to go out for a short walk to see kiddies trick-or-treating. It’s 6:40 here, and our doorbell hasn’t rung yet (although we live on a busy street, and might not get much foot-traffic). When should I go out for ~15 minutes to see the most kids out and about?

Six to 7:30. We probably had 400 of the 600 “kids” we had tonight during that time. Some of the “kids” seemed awfully big to me.

600?!

SERIOUSLY?!

We get like… 30, at most.

I am so jealous.

kids started around 4-ish in my neighborhood. Seemed pretty quiet from 6:30ish on until around 7:30–8 when I heard a bit of a ruckus… probably the older kids.

@poofandmook: 4? really? that seems really early for trick-or-treating

Thanks for the advice everyone. I went out for a nice walk around 7, and the streets around my house were very busy. No one came to our door, though :(.

Any advice on what to do with this extra candy?

my parents said there were kids outside their place at 2:30pm.

@eponymoushipster: How original…~

Um, I believe around 7:30–8:30 pm. 9:00 at the latest.

We started at 5pm, but we had a lot of different family members we have to drive all over town to Trick or Treat before we can get down to the serious stuff-whole neighborhoods. We started walking about 7ish and saw tons of kids. We walked about an hour and I was cold and tired. The kids would have went a lot longer though. In years past they wore out before daddy and I but that was not the case this year. They were ticked when it was time to go so we took them to a haunted house and all was right with the world.

Kids, begging for food. What has this country come to?

This year trick-or-treat started at 7 pm, once it got dark, kept going actively until 8:30, and then dribbled down to a random few older kids almost wearing costumes by 9:30.

It used to be that the tiny ones came out at 5:30 or 6 so they could still make bathtime and then bedtime, but apparently now the little guys go to bed at 9 or even 10.

We were going in to the city yesterday around 2 so I didn’t buy any candy. The doorbell rang twice before we left and I had to turn kids away. I felt like the Halloween Grinch!

Our village sets the hours for trick or treating. It was 5 -7 PM. It’s still light when they start, but dark before they are done.
