What are some fun things to do in Memphis, Tennessee?

Asked by Lacroix (537points) November 10th, 2009

I’ve lived here for just over a year, but the most I’ve seen is the zoo and the Pink Palace! There have just GOT to be other things to see! But where are they? Most importantly, how much do they cost (we’re poor college students)?

There are GREAT shows in Memphis from both big name and local bands that span across every genre. Just look up venues and take a shot at a random band!

The Gibson Factory tour (less than $10) is really neat. I also recommend the US Rock and Soul Museum (conveniently located across the street from Gibson)

Drive about and hour north to Reelfoot Lake. It was created when the Missisippi River flowed backwards during an earthquake in the early 1800’s. They have tours and a bald eagle habitat for hurt or sick eagles.

I’m about to be in Memphis to see the “Delta Saints”. I think its a band that my best friend wants to see.

I have no idea what there is to do there, however. Except move… Every time I’ve been to Memphis it was really scary. Oh! Don’t you guys have an amazing mall?

Civil Rights Museum is free on Mondays; Beale Street is Memphis’ Bourban street.
