How do I set a password on a computer on my home network?

Asked by Fallstand (1130points) February 13th, 2008

I set-up file sharing on my home network so I can access files on my desktop(PC) from my laptop(Mac). But I also have other people in my house I don’t want to have access to my computer.. How do I set a password for my PC?

If you are truly concerned about the security of the files on the machine you will need to add a password to the main user. You can do that through users in control panels (middle right of the start menu). Also you could just make a secondary user for other people if that is all you want and make users private. This may help describe it better than I can: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040
