Food issues: Does it bother you if the various foods on your plate are not separated?

Asked by jca (36062points) November 25th, 2009

The other day on the radio, there was a discussion about people who get very bothered by the foods on their plates touching each other. Some people really don’t like the cold food touching the hot food, or the various items touching each other. Apparently this is a common issue that bothers a lot of people. Does this bother you?

Do you have any other food quirks?

I don’t like it when they touch – but I won’t go berserk.

I don’t like when foods that can run together touch. Then it’s just a mix of grossness.

DominicX's avatar

I don’t care if they touch, but there are some things that shouldn’t mix together.

Although they mix together in my mouth, so I’m not sure what my problem is. :)

I get bothered when things I don’t like touches stuff I do… like bloody baked beans running all over the place taking over the entire plate with their yuckiness.

@simplicity Agreed. If there are baked beans on my plate we have much greater issues at hand and there will be much rueing.

Touching foodstuffs generally don’t bother me. :)

Depends on what they are. If it’s ice cream and spinach it’s different than if it’s just macaroni and vegetables.

I don’t mind it at all. Actually sometimes i love it, because some things actually do taste good and bring out each others flavors. But what i do hate is when there is something juicy like tomato, or some kind of protein that’s really juicy and the juice ends up spreading all over plate that may have something dry like rice, or couscous. Then that is really annoying

UGH I cant stand it! lol. Like the ONLY food that is allowed to touch on my plate is like pizza and chips. If its anything other than that I have to move it because I cant handle it lol… Im the only one in my family that it bothers though haha.

I used to be really anal about it! Not so much any more.

Prepare to be amazed. You guys here are rank amateurs in comparison.

And to answer the question: It doesn’t bother me at all unless there are raw onions or dill pickles involved. Ugh.

Unless they go together (like a gumbo type thing) I don’t want them touching.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

It really doesn’t bother me. Unless they are literally all mixed up and juices are running into each other, it’s no big deal. As my mother used to say…It all ends up in the same place anyways.

Val123's avatar

Oh…but it HAS to stay away from the bread! Don’t touch the bread!!

JONESGH's avatar

I like my food to touch, especially breakfast. Pancakes with bacon and eggs on top all covered in syrup. Yum.

No, I can’t say that it bothers me! But… I get so angry when someone makes me a hamburger and it falls apart. I mean, before I get to sink my teeth into it! It matters not, that I am going to pick it apart before I am half way through with it anyway! I just want to be the destroyer.

Although I am somewhat particular about what I will eat, food “touching” has never bothered me.

However, there are definitely some foods that don’t go together. For instance, corn and anything savory. Corn is sweet and should be isolated. :P

Yes it bothers me when 2 diff foods touch each other, especially if they run. That can be nasty

It doesn’t bother me, unless one food involves Cool Whip, little marshmallows, Miracle Whip, and gelatin. Then I don’t even want that one on my plate at all.

My son doesn’t want his food to touch, but then he also refuses to eat anything off his plate if there are any vegetables on it.

JONESGH's avatar

today is the best day for food touching.

rangerr's avatar

@JONESGH Except when cranberry anything touches my food!

sjmc1989's avatar

@JONESGH Holidays and family gatherings always make me anxious just for that reason, but thankfully my family loves me enought to buy the styrofoam divided plates and for that I love them!

JONESGH's avatar

@rangerr madness! cranberry goes on everything
