Why can't I buy Pink Floyd's "Echoes" on iTunes?

Asked by Mamradpivo (9665points) November 28th, 2009

I had this two-disc set earlier this decade. It’s a remixed (not remastered) best-of Pink Floyd album, with heavy emphasis on shining on, you crazy diamond. I’ve moved so many times that the CDs are long gone. But I recently discovered Piper at the Gates of Dawn in my old 200-disc changer and I want to download Echoes so I can play it on my iPhone.

This seems to be the only album not available on iTunes. It may be a record label issue, it may have been a limited edition.

Any advice or words of wisdom?

It could have something to do with the fact that it is a compilation album consisting of songs from albums that are from different record companies. Your best bet would be to find it online somewhere (Amazon has used copies for about $7), or to find it in a store and import it into iTunes.

You could also buy the songs you want individually, but be aware that long songs (like “Shine on You Crazy Diamond”) aren’t available to buy individually because of their length.

It’s not offered as a single on iTunes. You’d have to download the entire Meddle album in order to get it.

Amazon sells the MP3 download (and yes, iPods play MP3s in case anyone is wondering).

When all else fails, turn to piracy?

An album I want, Chocolate and Cheese (Ween), is also unavailable on ITUNES. I have no advice…I just understand how frustrating it can be. Personally, I am going to take jaytkay’s advice and download it via amazon.
