How should I label my wedding invitation envelopes?

Asked by ItalianPrincess1217 (11979points) December 9th, 2009 from iPhone

This is going to sound like a silly question but I just can’t seem to come up with a good solution. When sending out my wedding invitations, how should the return address look? We obviously aren’t married yet so it doesn’t make sense to put Mr & Mrs.Smith. But I don’t want to put only one of our names on it…Any idea what the proper way to do this is?

@SeventhSense Crap. I didn’t expect you to be on Fluther tonight! I thought you were going out with the guys…I’m so busted :(

Well ok since you broke my heart, I’ll answer the question. And since the lurking mods won’t allow a silly first answer Ill put in my two cents.
I would say just to use the bride’s address since I think people generally think of wedding invitations as coming from the bride anyway. I don’t think it’s much of an issue though. As long as they have a place to be returned to in the case of undeliverable.
of course you’ll have to add a garter to that avatar as well

Just put the address on it, or your first names as well.

@SeventhSense We already live together so we have the same address anyway. I must have forgot to mention that part. Oops! I’m sorry I broke your heart…You can still be my Fluther husband :)

I think I’ll do what @faye said and just put our first names. Sounds simple enough.

I’d put both of your names.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

@figbash The problem with both names is that we have really long names…It looks ridiculous.

Now your terrifying me….Fluther mistress fine..marriage egads!!

Why not just use the address? In the past, I think they were often from the bride’s parents.

ItalianPrincess1217's avatar

@augustlan Good idea. I guess I always thought it was an unwritten rule that you had to have a name above the address…

@SeventhSense You’re right. What was I thinking! I can barely handle one husband. Two would ruin me! Being a fluther mistress is fine with me ;)

I kind of like @faye‘s suggestion. I think it sounds cute to put something like:

Jane and John
123 Shadow Lane
Our Town, MA, 12345

Just the address is also a valid option.

These are great suggestions. I can’t believe I had to ask fluther such a simple thing but I was really drawing a blank!

You said you had long names so here’s another suggestion of what you could do:

Susan Francis Mary Jones-Smith
Michael Andrew Lloyd-Williams
456 Sunnyvale lane
Springfield, CA 34569
