What is the best way of getting Internet access when travelling?

Asked by keithold (735points) December 15th, 2009

I am thinking of taking my laptop to Sydney over Christmas. What is the best way of getting Internet access? Alternatively, would a Blackberry or iPhone be a better option or an Internet cafe? I want to send an e-mail to friends and relatives advising them of how my Dad is going in hospital.

Most chain or tourist hotels have WiFi either in-room or in the lobby.

I would suggest a wireless card from a world wide source say like verizon or sprint check and see what there coverage is in the area and pick the best one that way you have a reliable internet source it would be cheaper then a internet cafe they charge you by the hour

and aphilotus is right most hotels have wifi access for free you might check with them and see what they say also before signing anything

We have found that truck stops along the way all have wireless internet access, and we never stay in any hotel that doesn’t offer it.

Hotels all have wireless internet. Even some fast food restaurants have it—I don’t eat there but I’ve parked in the lot to do some business on the laptop before.
