Do you ever feel as though the world is passing you by?

Asked by bitter_sweet_rose (115points) January 15th, 2010

I’m 14 and I’m going to run track, but right now I don’t play any sports. (I have tried a lot just didn’t find one I actually liked enough to stay with it.) I’m also in power if the pen, but the thing is I feel like if i’m not in school, hanging with friends or doing something like that, I feel as though life is passing me by, and there’s nothing I can do about it. Have you ever felt like this? How did you over come it? Thanks.

edit. I’m usually home alone for hours every night while my mom and dad run my brother and sister everywhere. I don’t really talk to my family either.

I have this. What I have done is just made myself so busy I cant think about it. Adding sports, or just a daily gym routine really helps with it. I didn’t believe it until I tried it. From the moment I wake up until the time my head hits the pillow, I am so busy I cant stop. I am actually at the point now where I have too much in the day, and I need to back off a little bit.

You’ve hardly started your life and feel like it’s passing you by? I know that life passed me in a cloud of dust 20+ years ago, but I’m 53. It’s not essential that you be tuned in to every tiny nuance of what’s happening in the world. You need to seek out your place, your mission, your passion and start turning more attention to that. You have at least another decade to be doing that. I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up.

I have to say it really sucks. What our youth has to go through today.

When I turned 18 my only concern, for the most part, was buying a car (used) and paying for the insurance.

Now when you become an “adult” you have a cell phone, internet access plus a computer, cable TV, a car (no one buys shit boxes any more) and all the status clothing. You can’t seem to do much without money these days. Or at least that is the trap society walks our young adults of today into.

@bitter_sweet_rose – Take this “free” time and just explore and learn about life. Get involved with everything and anything because one day you will wish for the time you now have available. It is all good. :-)
Also, be creative. You you have all the time in the world.

All the time. I just try to keep my eyes and heart open for whatever’s coming next.

When I fill up my days with things that are important to me, I feel like I’m missing less. Maybe it’d be fun to spend your time away from track on other hobbies and interests.
