What is Michaelangelo.fluther.com? And why is it so damn slow?

Asked by Kraigmo (9061points) January 19th, 2010

When Fluther gets really slow, I notice at the bottom of my browser, it says “reading michaelangelo.fluther.com”.

What exactly is that, and why does it clog Fluther up?

It’s our new static file server (it’s serves the non-dynamic parts of the website like the images and the css).

It’s new it it should be faster than before, but we’ve just started hearing reports that it’s slow. We’re not sure why, but we’ll be looking into it immediately.

um, @ben, I think maybe you guys wanna return michaelangelo.fluther to its supplier. And also: yui.yahooapis.com… is that a server you use, or a service you use? Whatever it is, it’s also slow as hell.

I’ve been bothered enough over the last few months by Michelangelo to come back and write this.

PS I don’t mean to be a backseat driver. i’m sorry. I was just frustrated last night at the slowness.

@Kraigmo That’s the first news I’ve heard of it being slow recently. Thanks for the headsup—we’ll look into it.
