What's the best way to clean up honey?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) January 21st, 2010

The honey spilled all over its cabinet shelf, so needless to say there is a big mess. There is honey all over everything else, and the shelf is high enough that I can’t really see the surface.

Any tips? Or should I just take advantage of it to finally glue down shelf paper?

Haha thanks @jeff.

Water, dear. It will dissolve the honey. Just use a damp, warm cloth and rub it away.

Also, try vinegar.

Ewwh…I wouldn’t leave it alone. I’d try to clean it up. Who knows what can breed in the sugar (or be attracted to it, like ants).

Gallons of hot water and soap and tons of rags. You will attract every ant, wasp, fly and small, annoying things to the site. Sorry. I hope you have no plans for today.

What Gail said.

Flies or vinegar or attraction… something along those lines.

Thanks for all the tips! I will spend all day tomorrow on it. Luckily it’s winter (in MA) so anything attracted to it is long dead.

No one talked about you and help, some hot water poured slow on the honey, one is scrubbing softly and vacuuming with a wet/ dry vacuum. then finish with a towel soaked in hot water to finish. Works for anything sticky!

Use a butter knife or metal spatula to scrape up the excess hot water to clean the knife. White vinegar to clean the residue.
