What type of friend was I to this guy?

Asked by shpadoinkle_sue (7188points) March 21st, 2010

This happened awhile ago and, now, isn’t that big a deal. It’s just in the back of my head and I was wondering what type of friend I was to this guy.
The story is I used to work nights at a home improvement store. This guy and I started oreintation together. I didn’t really notice him, but he started talking to me about “Band of Brothers”, which I loved. It was random, but I thought what the hey. He was put in gardening and I was put in lighting.
He’d come over every day and tell me jokes. Eventually, he invited me to a group of people’s weekly karaoke on saturday night. After 8 or 9 hours of work, we’d go home and chat online usually for about 4 or 5 hours. One instance, I had this guy in my section who was really pervy and gross. If I didn’t tell my supervisor, the guy in gardening would. I did and I was moved. He’d take me with him to lunch most nights. We helped each other get over some stuff, I stopped him from quitting loads of times, and I started getting curious about what this was. Then, it stopped. I was too afraid to ask him.

Sorry for all the info, but I’m curious what kind of friend I was to this guy. It wouldn’t mean anything now, but I’m curious about what a guy’s point of view would be of this.

Sounds like he was keen on you but too shy to make a move. Then it stopped because he either got over it/ figured you weren’t interested or found someone else.

What kind of friend? A normal friend.
I don’t understand why you’re asking. Do you want more form this friendship? Do you think he wants more?

@Violet…I think what she is asking is WHY it just stopped.

If it was a normal friendship, that kind of interaction wouldn’t just stop….I completely agree with @FishGutsDale.

Also, I think that kind of relationship with someone of the opposite sex can only really be classified as a friendship if you have known them for a while, and the behaviour is consistent…...

I think he liked you a lot…most likely as more than a friend.

BUT this doesnt mean that he JUST wanted your goodies…I’m sure he really enjoyed your company and the friendship you shared.

@j0ey if that is the case…

It doesn’t sounds like you put in any effort. You said “I was too afraid to ask him”.. ask him what?

Are you still working together? Has he acquired a girlfriend outside of work? It sounds like he was doing all the work in this relationship, and perhaps he felt like you weren’t interested in him.

Sounds to me like your were friendly co-workers nothing more. He to me was obviously interested in more and so were you from the sound of it. Track him down and ask him to go out if you are still interested!

This is just another level of my obliviousness, I guess. I was trying to figure out what was going on and I missed it. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
