It is something that cannot be proven or disproved.

What does the word “god” mean? We have to all agree on what that means before you can aak weather or not it/she/he exist.

fafnet's avatar

a self aware being that intentionally created our universe

TheHaight's avatar

yeah, what do you mean by god? There are different opinions of what/who god is. But in my own opinion, he exists to me and you dont necessarily need evidence, its just by having faith. There has been some sort of evidence all around the world, and its up to you If you want to believe it or not.

no, just no

God does exist the smartest minds in the world cannot explain things by nature or fate. The trees the earth itself, we proclaim the hand of a divine being. The world is to complex. If God does not exist, then there is no good. If there is no good then there is no evil. If there is evil there is no sin. There is sin, there is bad. I feel happy when I do follow the commandments and that is proof on top of my faith.

Eklamor: I really enjoyed reading your answer.

I wish I were young enough to know everything….

I enjoy broad statements like ”the smartest minds in the world cannot explain things by nature or fate.” And by enjoy I mean abhor.

If there is no good then there is no evil.” I think I may vomit.

delirium's avatar

Amen to that, brownlemur. ;)

eklamor's avatar

the person I had in mind with that broad statement was Einstein. Towards the end of his life he spoke and I am paraphrasing ” the more I study the universe and see how complex it is the more I see the hand of a divine creator.” saying there is no proof is a cop out. Study anything intensly and youll see everything works in harmony. Nothing just happened to be

delirium's avatar

study more and see that nothing works in true harmony.

TheHaight's avatar

AMEN to that, eklamor

Haha

if you want hope, if you believe in life after this world. Believe in God, otherwise eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die. I believe this life is a time to prepare to return to God to be accountable. And I for one want the blessings and happiness he gives his faithful servants.

Theotherkid's avatar

I agree with Eklamor.

delirium's avatar

And you can believe that. I’d just rather spend my time helping things we can be sure of…. people.
Rather than wasting my time in church, i’m going to spend it working to help people in Darfur. Its your decision to what matters more.

TheHaight's avatar

delirium, I could do both. :)

TheHaight's avatar

Go to church just once a week for an hour and a half and help people out at the same time all week long.

eklamor's avatar

spending time in church is important. Helping people is equal. I’m all for helping people in darfur. All Christ did while on earth was help people. I believe very much so in loving your neighbor, and the neighbor is the world in my book.

brownlemur's avatar

You all keep saying church. What about Mosque, Synagogue, or other places of worship? Are you saying that a Christian church is the only place where one can connect with god? What do you think of the other religions (Judeo-Christian and others)?

fafnet's avatar

I find people who are athiests are usually the ones who want to help others just for the sake of helping. Most religious people help others because they’re afraid god will be mad at them if they don’t.

TheHaight's avatar

NO brownlemur we arent saying that!!! I’m saying in MY opinion and experiences!!! And I’d value ANYONES opinion if they were to say mosque, synagogue, temple etc!!!!!! Were are those people? Not here, yet

TheHaight's avatar

fafnet, that’s very judgemental of you. Why do you think that? I like helping people because it makes me feel good, not because “God will be mad at me if I don’t” that’s ridiculous. You could worship by religion or belief and not give a crap about doing the right thing.

fafnet's avatar

haight in my experience that’s what I’ve seen. Mostly. There are religious people out there who do the right thing, but I’ve encountered a lot who use god as an excuse to do, or not do, many things. I don’t need god for an excuse. I help people because its the right thing to do. I don’t hurt people because its wrong. Simple as that

TheHaight's avatar

exactly, that’s the whole point I’m trying to state.. Helping people because its the right thing to do.
