Where does this quote by Peter DeVries originate?

Do any of you literati know where this quote by Peter DeVries comes from? “The difficulty with marriage is that you fall in love with a personality but must live with a character.” Was it something he said or is it from something he wrote?

I’ve been trying to track this down and it’s not really revealing sources. I think it was something he said. But he worked for the New Yorker, so it may have come from that. Wish I could help more. Groovy quote.
