What purpose does hibiscus serve in most herbal teas?

Most herbal teas, such as the Celestial Seasonings brand, include hibiscus as a main ingredient.

hibiscus is a deep red flower that has a sort of sweetly tart flavor…almost like a cranberry juice but a little more sweet. It adds the “tang” that you taste in some herbal teas. It also adds the lovely pinkish color (If you didn’t add hibiscus, most herbal teas would be a more clear color…either lightly greenish from the mint or yellowish from the chamomile).
