Can a jade plant get "sunburned"?

Asked by the808swede (23points) June 26th, 2010

My jade plant looks burned. Has brown spots on leaves. Just moved it outside, wondering if sun is too strong?

Probably so…they are a succulent, so they contain a lot of water. At our house today, it would have ‘boiled’.

How hot is “boiled”? Gets sunny and relatively warm near giants ballpark in SF… so how much sun/shade do you give your succulents?

I was being a bit silly by saying “boiled”. What I meant was that when it’s very hot, full days of sun can be exhausting for plants, especially succulents.
